I have a parasitic draw on my touareg. its an 05 v8 with air suspension. its not a large draw like some of the other members have stated about there battery's being dead overnight. but rather a very slow one if i let it set for about three days the voltage will be 10.5v over night its fine about 12.3v has anyone else had a similar problem. i dont think it the navi or the door handle button. cause its such a small draw. thanks in advance for your help.

I have a similar problem with my 04 V8. I have not left it for 3 days to take a voltage reading, but overnight the voltage will go down to about 12.3v.

One method I have found helpful is if you get access to the fuse boxes on both sides, open both passenger and driver side doors, engage the locking latch on the doors so it thinks the doors are closed and lock the touareg with the key fob. Now you can let it sit for at least two hours so it will go into "sleep" mode. After two hours it up take a reading off each of the fuses with a DMM, if there is current then that component is consuming electricity. If you are lucky you can find a constant draw and fix it that way.

The problem is that some components can cycle on/off over a period of time and may be off when you are testing the fuse. The only way to find out if one of these components is causing the draw is to test with an ammeter(which are very expensive, especially when you are dealing with mili-amps) hooked up for a number of hours.

This is basically where I am in the whole process - nothing found so far, I will probably have to take it in to get it figured out.

Hopefully you will have better luck.

Hey Goalie Ken, do you have keyless entry? I don't on mine, but I have read about problems with KESSY on touregs with keyless entry causing battery drain. I just assumed it only affected vehicles with the keyless entry...

Kessy battery drain

All;

I've been having issues with the battery being drawn down. Shop said parasitic draw was low....I think they didn't turn on security when testing because last night when I left 2004 v8 Touareg unlocked, the battery voltage was high 12's...no drain....so it must be this Kessy module....any thoughts?

I tend to agree with this. I have the same slow drain the battery. I charge my battery at least once a week to keep it from getting too low and reducing the life the battery. I just had my kessy unit replaced but the keyless entry does not work. So I will be back to the dealer to see what is up. I was hoping this kessy unit fix would eliminate this slow drain.

You need to keep your keys further away from the vehicle when you aren't in it. If you are like most people, you keep your keys close to the garage. The system continues to read the key since its close, resulting in a current draw. It's a well documented issue with the system.

You don't notice it if you drive the Egg every day, but let it sit for a couple days and suddenly the voltage is way down.

One solution would be to move the keys much farther away. Another might be to try putting the keys in a metal box or something that blocks the signal transmission.

Just a few thoughts and solutions.

So how far away is away? I do keep them about 20 feet -- behind the exterior brick and an interior wall in my house.....

Also...if the buttons and auto unlock doesn't work...perhaps the Kessy is searching forever...though with what Volkster said...perhaps that isn't true.

Question - why did they release it to you if things still didn't work? I bought mine used and the keyless works if I hit the fob button....but not the "just pull the handle". Plus the little buttons don't work on any of the doors....

Wondering if I should switch to an Optima Sealed or Marine Battery -- can handle draw downs much better.

I am wondering the same thing. It seems they did not test before they gave it back. Unfortunately I did not test it until I got home. Right now, none of the buttons nor the handle are working.

My keys are also maybe 20 feet from the car however through a few walls.

What did they charge you for the Kessy replacement? I'm wondering about doing it...but if the door handles and all that still don't work....and the battery drain continues...why bother....

Will try that "bury the keys in the north forty" to see if it works as well since I let it sit for 3 days and battery showed 11 volts this morning and wouldn't budge.

Luckily for me the Kessy was still under warranty. However the unit cost about $675 and they charged about $175 to install it. So far, it seems that the battery drain has stopped but the jury is still out on that. I called the dealer today and told them that the keyless entry and buttons are not working. They assured me that they tested it and it worked perfectly. So I will be bringing the Treg in sometime next week to get them to look at it again and maybe a reprograming of the unit. I will let you know how that goes when it happens.

Hey Volkster, so what became of the Kessy fix? Did they figure it out? I'm thinking I may do same at my 80K Timing belt change.

I have not brought it in yet mostly because I did not want to be without the Egg again. I did call the dealer and they said that did test it. From the time I received the Egg back from the dealer to the time I got home (about 7 miles) it stopped working I guess. Also, since this Kessy unit has been replaced and even though it is not working, my battery drain seems to have gone away. There is a 12 month warranty on these parts so I am not in a hurry at this point. I will be bringing it back in the next month or so.

bringing this one back to life! finally found my parasitic draw! My alt went out on me the other day, so i removed the alt to rebuild it which is another story all by its self. anyway reconnected the battery and moved the touareg in to one of my empty bays. go to open the door 4 days later and notice my dash lights up. thought to myself what the hell it should be dead now! but nope now going on 7 days the battery is still charged. :p

I've been having battery issues for over 3 months now. One J519 Power Supply Control Unit and two batteries later I'm feeling as if it may be the alternator. Were you getting 14V while the car was running?

yes the alt was charging just fine, but if i let it sit for a day and a half it would be dead. no i have no problem what so ever its such a good feeling going out the the touareg and turning on the key to see that i still have a charged battery!

It sound lie you have narrowed it down, but another cause of voltage drop over time is a dud battery.
