Hi All,
We just picked up a used 2017 Wolfsburg Touareg last night. We had been looking for an option to replace the 3.6r Outback that we loved with something that can tow more and weren't excited by the idea of a full size SUV or Truck. This seems to fit the bill. I do have a few questions:

This car came with one key. We will have to get another made (and from having to have a similar key made for a prior car I am expecting to spend a few hundred dollars, ugh)

This specific car doesn't have remote start. I forgot to even check that detail as I've just grown accustomed to it just coming OEM over the last few cars and took it for granted, like AC and power windows.

So before having new key made, I wanted to ask about remote start options. I'm assuming there is an OEM option from a dealer (I'll call them about the key when they open later today). If so, is it integrated into the actual key or is it a separate fob? If it's a separate fob, I guess I would be just as open to 3rd party remote start options as what I like about OEM is (on the subaru at least) it being incorporated into the key so you only have to carry 1 thing.

I will have other questions for sure, but these are the first things to tackle.

Thanks!

Follow up:
Dealer said remote start isn't an option to add onto this model. Bummer. Guess I'll look into 3rd party options. Any suggestions welcomed.

Also, I guess I'm open to third party key options as well if they work and are reliable. I don't have any idea how to program them or who is good to go with so any suggestions are welcomed on that issue as well.

Thanks!

If things have not changed, key should be around $350 from the dealer and about half that from a good indie mechanic that has the programming equipment for VW/Audi.

Another question:
In the glove compartment came cables for connecting phone, some plastic pieces for exposing the child seat clips and 4 square flat plastic plates. I have no idea what these molded plates are for. Maybe 2.5 inches square.

Any idea?

You wont find remote start on any European vehicles - it's illegal to leave a vehicle idling and unattended in Europe. So its not on a Touareg, Porsche, Audi, Benz, etc. Even the 200K ones. Nope.

You might find it on the "made for USA and made in the USA" models (Atlas, new Passat, etc) though since they don't export them.

As for the key, take a deep breath on the price. They aren't cheap.

Congrats on the new rig!

Congrats on your new vehicle.

I ordered a second brand new non programmed fob key and blade valet key for my '11 Treg from an online VW parts place. I paid ~ $160 with shipping for both. The blade valet key was cut for my vehicle (they asked for the VIN #). I went to my local VW dealer and set up an appointment to have the fob programmed to my vehicle. Cost to do this was $100 which included a 32 point inspection of the vehicle. My total cost was ~ $260. Key fob and blade valet key work great. Search around online.
