My new to me 2014 TDI, 60K mi on the clock. Post-fix. I have only been driving a week or so.

I have noticed that at times the transmission seems to shift very firmly. Kind of lunges you forward, but very quickly, not like a slip. Kind of jerks your head a bit.

Other times, it goes right it with just a little blip.

I have noticed while going slower in lower gears this feeling it is more pronounced.

Only my second TDI, first was a 2014 Passat, but I don't remember how it felt.

It is due for a trans change, which i have on order. But just wanted to get some general feedback.

Have you done a gearbox reset? Takes 10 seconds.

Clickscrazy,

like Noobytoogy has said,
do a transmission reset first.
The Aisin 8 speed is not like a cheap transmission that just coast ( read freewheel) when you decelerate and shifts into gear when you accelerate.
It downshifts itself so you are more likely to be in the correct gear when you require acceleration. It reads multiple sensors when shifting up or down.
It might have a problem with the shift manifold but I would not have thought so, as it is a 2014 model.
If you still think it is shifting abruptly then get it plugged in and check for any errors in the module.
You did say that you are doing a trans change??? Just Oil I hope!

What is the gearbox reset and how do you do it?
Gearbox reset allows trans to relearn your driving habits.
Turn on ignition but do not start car
Hold gas pedal all the way down for 10 seconds
Turn off ignition and remove key
Done

I thought, later model Touareg’s don’t require tranny oil change (according to manufacture) for the life of the car. Even the service manual doesn’t say to change it.
It took me a while to find out what capacity it is and the fluid recommended.
Don’t get me wrong, I would change it too, but certainly not often as engine oil.

when you said “60K, max recommended time” Did you read it somewhere specific or was it general info?

Change the fluid and do a trans reset. I'd also replace filter, pan seal etc...

Use OEM oil or Fuchs Titan 4400

First I would do a reset and see how that goes. Fluid change will not make a drastic difference unless the oil has been in there for 200K miles. The fluid may be a lifetime fluid but lifetime these days is about 5 years.
