Interior Rattles and Squeaks: On A Scale of 1-10, What Would You Rate Your Egg?

Once you vote, feel free to discuss any issues you may have had or still do, and what you did to get rid of them.

I tried to go back to edit the poll, but there was no way that I could

In any case, yes, correct, 10/10 would be a 100% ace, meaning no rattles of any kind. 1/10 would mean a rattle trap, meaning FAIL.

7 out of 10. Mostly good. I just have one major rattle that annoys the schiesse out of me... the center console rattles like a SOB when my arm isn't resting on it. Tried lots of shims/felt pads, nothing works...

The only noise that keeps mine from being a 10/10 is the rattle/squeak from the console armrest. Of course, when it's cold out there's a few more rattles but not much.

The only rattle I have is the rear slide cover in the back. You MUST have it extended to the back or it rattles constantly.

I have 4 rattles:
1. Finishing strip above the instrument cluster. These was a TSB on this. Not too bad. One decent push on the dash and it's quiet for the day.
2. Center arm rest/bin lid. If I slide mine forward, it's much better.
3. Wooden inlay above the glove compartment. Really annoying. Will take it off to see what's what soon.
4. Wooden inlay in Right Rear door. Right behind me as I'm RHD. Also very annoying.

The Wooden inlays started rattling after a lot of gravel road driving. I do my fair share of gravel roads.

I had a rattle in the back when ever I went over a bump or trurned a corner.
Finaly found out what it was in the back left side in the little cubby hole thing.
There was 2 new hood hinges in there rattleing around.

I so want to know about your hood!

I never saw you post saying you got it open?
Does it rattle?
You're right! I forgot to update that thread. There's just too much going on to remember everything  .
I just updated it http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f...orums/f43/front-hood-wont-pop-open-when-pulling-the-lever-34627.html#post200700 .

As for rattles in my Touareg, the front portion of my cockpit cabin is very quiet. Th center console used to make some noise, but I punched one day that my Mediterranean blood got the best of me, and it's gone now. ;) The rear is an other story. It's either the rear seat back or the rear hatch lid(or window) that makes a brief deep rattle sound over bumps, and takes away the magic of an other wise very solid vehicle. One day, I'd like to have someone drive it, while I go sit back there, and investigate thoroughly.

I did notice over the coldest days in the winter, that the first five minutes of running warm air, through the vents and defrost outlets, that the dash would make some racket, in the form of "creaking," as the plastics would expand from sub zero to eventually room temperature. I think that this is the first vehicle that I have ever owned that has exhibited this type of "behavior." That creaking sound gave me th eimpression that the plastics had become brittle or too dry. This summer, I'm going to constantly "feed" that dash with various mixtures and compounds, and see if that eventually improves things. I just can't help but wonder, if I had owned this Egg from brand new, if it would be still doing this. My Passat which I have owned since new, hence having taken care of and "fed it" since day one, is quiet QUIET and I mean not one creak.

i have to say i gave it a 10/10 mine is really quiet, only drivers seat when im moving it to sleeping position when wife says she s just running into mall for a quick stop 2 hrs later it makes a leather rubbing against the center console very little

Pretty standard squeeky console, armrest, bin lid thingy. Move it ahead 1 notch and it stops.

James

I get a bit of rattle from the center arm-rest - gets better when sliding it forward. Driver side rear seat needs to be adjusted next time its in for service - for now I solved the rattle/thumb by squeezing a small towel in between the rear seat-backs. Otherwise its solid! (2005 w/40,000 miles)

I edited to poll to reflect the scale. I voted 9/10. I beat the piss out of my Touareg on the trail for sometimes over 100 miles a day and she is still smooth and rattle free on the pavement.

Thanks for editing it aircooled. I tried a few seconds after I first posted it up, but even when I went through the "go advanced" editing feature, unless I missed something, it wouldn't allow me to edit the poll title, that I did in fact screw up on my first copy.

I wonder who are the two people who voted the 3/10? Whoever it was, I hope they didn't mistake the smaller numbers as higher marks, and think that 3/10 meant good!
