I just pickup a 2004 Tauareg from my stepdad today. It's got 180k miles, but runs great. It's got nav and V8 engine. On the radio screen, I have a button for "aux" but can't find an aux input in the armrest glove box or anywhere else. I don't think the car supports bluetooth, but is there an easy way to install an aux input?

Thanks!

I tried to search via ClubTouareg.com, but keep getting an error message- maybe because I just registered yesterday. I found some info on tm-techmark.com that has a wiring harness with aux input that plugs into the back of the radio, but this looks like its about 10 year old info (although Tm-techmark responded to my email to say they still have these plugs in stock).

Is there any input on how well the techmark product works vs. other products that have built in bluetooth? I've used a Parrot bluetooth in a subaru in the past and was not terribly impressed. I see the GTA car kits for the Treg, which look like a similar type of install to the techmark product. I have a Crux bluetooth interface in an acura and it works great, but it doesn't look like they make one for the Treg.

Any input on what's working for well people with the older Tregs?

Thanks.

I bought the Tm-techmark harness years ago and it still works great in my 2004 V8. It just provided a 3.5mm audio input jack but that's good enough. There are tons of cheapie Bluetooth->3.5mm adapters if you want Bluetooth connectivity.

Good luck!

FYI. The forum search engine is crashing on my also.

Thanks for the input. I just ordered the TM Techmark harness and radio removal tools. I've got a couple little bluetooth dongles that attach to the 1/8" headphone jack which I'm hoping will work to make this bluetooth.

I installed the TM harness on my 05 V8. Wired up with a Belkin bluetooth device to it but started getting whining noises during acceleration. Probably some grounding issue that I didn't have the time to resolve. So I installed an actual 3.5mm aux input jack on the front panel next to the hazard light switch. Sounded much better. See pic...

I've been seriously considering installing this kit on my DVD RNS2 (though it should work the same as the CD)

https://www.naviservice.it/telefono-bluetooth-vw-vivavoce-touareg-7l6035729/

Only issue is that it most likely will require some VCDS coding, and I'm not too sure how complete the wiring harness kit is. It also will require the steering wheel control. I'm on the fence about retrofitting an RNS 510 (which wouldn't work with this module), so I'm not sure if I wanna dump any money into my existing nav unit.

Also, this kit (which is OEM) is nice because it allows you to access your phonebook, missed calls, etc straight from your instrument cluster (which the aftermarket kits can't). I don't think it'll let you stream music through BT though. You can just use the AUX for that.

My 2004 Touareg did not have an AUX plug, but I was able to add Carplay through AUX in the following project:

1) Purchased this Jensen Carplay unit fron Crutchfield:

2) Purchased this 18 pin AUX connector for VW from ebay:
[Can't add link yet]

3) Ran a new 12 V circuit from passenger-side fusebox to space between head unit and glove compartment.

4) Jensen cable includes 12V input, 3.5mm output, and a usb - usbc iphone charging port.
  • Connected VW Aux cable to Jensen 3.5mm female.
  • Added usb-c output to above dash for iphone charging (though Jensen connects to iphone via wifi)
  • Plan to add a noise filter between Jensen and VW Aux:
[Can't add link yet]
Result:

System works - Jensen has wifi connection to andriod or iphone and connects to VW via FM or AUX.
I agree with other posts that FM connection is more powerful(but can be noisy).
Aux connection is cleaner, but lower-powered. If I crank up the amp volume there is a bit of ground loop noise which I hope to clean up with the noise filter.

The overall installation is clean - all cabling is in an interior space between head unit and glove compartment. Jensen unit mounted on top of dash with small hole to pass through main cable and usb-c cord for optional iphone charging.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks, td23. I appreciate you pasting it as a graphic, which I reproduce below, just in case. I also paste it here as OCR text, since my searches on the web confirm that many of the old suppliers for the original Touareg have disappeared or no longer supply solutions, so anything modern that works and is available I find valuable.

vwW12,

I will try the links again - hopefully the forum will not block them:
1) Purchased this Jensen Carplay unit from Crutchfield:

2) Purchased this 18 pin AUX connector for VW from ebay:

4) Ground loop noise filter

A great solution, because it retains all the original functionality (VW NAV, Radio, 6 CD Changer) & adds carplay or android auto.
Good luck!
