Hello,

I am new to the forum and have an issue with my 2008 Touareg.
Standard V6 Sport no frills T2.
It has what I think is a plugged A/C drain tube and now my driver and passenger floors are soaking wet.
Tried to search but without much success.
Looking for some sound advice on a DIY fix.

Soaking in Minnesota.

Thanks!

Hello 2 Tregs. I had the exact same problem with my 2008 treg V6. Its the sunroof drains that are clogged. In heavy rain mine did the same thing. Try running water though them and watch for the water to drain from each wheel well. I had made a cleaner of some sort that you can attach to a garden hose with a ball valve to regulate the water pressure to flush out the lines. Plumbing parts from Home Depot. 1/4 tubing, ballvalve, attachment to garden hose, 1/4 nipple for the tubing. I was able to flush out both sides very well. Never had a problem since. I will try to post a picture of it.

I look forward to seeing that.

Thank You!

If you have wet carpets but no recent rainfall or car wash, them you have a blocked ac drain pipe. It’s located under the filter fan assembly and just ram something like a coaxial cable down the tube. Plenty of good info posted here.

I have a 2008 V8 and in the past couple of years I had issues with water in the cabin.

For the fender and sunroof drains, I removed the front fender liners and removed the rubber drain plugs and ran a hose from the engine bay to flush out all the fallen leaves.

Next I ran a wire down the sunroof drains, be careful not to puncture the tubes. You could also blow compressed air down the drain tubes. But I would first recommend pouring some water down the drains to confirm they are clogged rather than just assuming. I took a water bottle and poured a little water down the sunroof drains on the front corners and waited for water to drip from under the vehicle.

And lastly for the AC drain, it is located on the passenger side footwell. You must remove the cover like you do when you change the cabin filter. Refer to post #8 in the link below. Be sure to have a bucket underneath when you pull the hose off because water will come pouring out if it is clogged. Then I ran a wire through the hose towards the engine to clear out the hose and that was it!

Good luck!

That is my suspicion that the water is coming from a blocked AC drain pipe.
If anyone out there could provide some links that would be great.
Yes the 2008 does have a sunroof and is used often - always garaged.

Thanks!

Here's the fix for the A/C condensate drain. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. To correct myself, the engine bay drain is next to the catalytic converter, not the DPF.

Here's a simple way to find the drain on the engine bay side.

The drain outlet in the engine bay has a flexible rubber cap molded onto the end, however the end is very near the DPF or some part of the exhaust system and mine had stuck shut.

So, to find it I pushed a piece of bright colored wire from the cabin side through the tube then, being able to see the wire from below, followed the wire up to the drain and, using some side cutters, cut off the little cap. I'm not concerned about fording rivers. The drain now works perfectly and there's no more water in the cabin.

Thanks Navadan!

I have had a long history with the local dealer over a 35 year relationship. I worked their in my youth selling cars, now my oldest son has been employed for about six years.
I ultimately brought the '08 in for them to look at, 15 minutes later I was on the road with a no charge invoice.

Happy Camper!

Thank you for all your insightful comments and recommendations!

Excellent solution, unplugging it form the cabin side. I recall on mine the exhaust manifold or turbo or something had melted the little cap onto the end of the tube and I just cut it off from the engine bay side, and it was difficult.
Nice work.
