Update:
The RNS850 V9 maps are running.
VW dealership needs to pay close attention to follow the setup procedure correctly.
First all modules have to be firmware updated. This took 3 hours.
Next is the actual upload of the SD card content to the HDD.
This takes another 4hours.

Now, the look is definitely improved and the speed of the map buildup and calculation of the routes is improved as well.
The general look and feel of the system is like the 2016 versions.
Maps data wise I see vast improvements and yes, my neighborhood is now shown.

We now have a digital clock while in map mode.
Many more POI to choose from and while in map mode the icons are shown correctly.

Overall a very good improvement and in my case a great investment.

Thank you!
Matt
Does this make it a 7 hours of labor install? I hope not?

Can you tell me what firmware version is displayed now with the V9 update?

$299 is not completely unreasonable.

If you are playing music from an SD card in "mix" mode does it remember on restart or do you still need a couple of screen taps every time?

Also, if you do mix in a folder will it also shuffle the songs in subfolders or do you still need play lists?

Those are two anoyances that other VW's don't have but my 2015 Touareg does.

Let me try to answer your questions:
Since the Entertainment System needed to be Firmware Updated, I noticed the that it does shuffle thru media cards much faster.

It memorizes where you left of in a song and continues. Same if you mute music it pauses the media.

I have not tried this, as i load all media on the HDD. If I do not use it, I erase it.

I probably didn't ask well, or maybe you don't use it like I do but...

If I have a bunch of songs in a folder or in a playlist, I want it to play them in a random order (shuffle or mix mode). In my 2015, if I hit extras and then mix it will do that. When I turn off the car it remembers what song it was playing and where in the song it stopped....BUT, on restart, it will not be in the shuffle mode and will simply play the songs in order until I re-enable mix mode. That requires a minimum of two taps (depending on what screen you were on) with every startup.

The other issue, if all my songs are organized in folders named after the album, I cannot go to the top level and tell it to shuffle through all folders. You can do this on a Golf but the Touareg will only play songs in the folder you are in and will not look in the subfolders. The workaround is to make a playlist file, but that is an extra step every time you add music.

Thanks

BTW:
The partnumber for V9 is:
7P6 051 850 AN

Dealership must have the Activation Key and must be authorized by VW.
Pretty sure this is backwards. The map data SD card is the one that is a 'shop tool' and is kept by the dealership. The activation key card is for each vehicle, and the dealership has to activate it with VW when they do the update.
