Up until a few days ago there was a question and answer on the Australian website that specificaly stated that Petrol and V6/V8 TDI
engines are not affetced by the current emissions issues.

I have sent a request to VW Australia asking why this statement has been removed ?

Good spot.

Well we know that late last week VW has finally and begrudgingly admitted that the V6Tdi also has cheat software . . .

Let us know what they say this time!

I think the issue will be how much HP is lost with the fix? And will owners be able to decline a fix?

From the other long thread and associated links the cheat injects extra fuel into the exhaust to reduce NOX. This is the "fix" that was taken in preference to Urea injection. So maybe not only HP down but rather fuel consumption up - maybe way up.

Update:
- there has been no response from VW Australia.
- my dealer is waiting a response from VW Australia

However I think this recent development is the reason:

"The federal Environmental Protection Agency, which is probing the VW emissions scandal with CARB, said last Friday that Audi had told US regulators that three-liter diesel models since 2009 contain the auxiliary emissions control devices (AECD)"

Its probably only a matter of time before the V8 diesel in included.

It's still not clear in Europe whether Euro 5 and/or Euro 6 V6 TDIs are affected at all.

The mist is clarifying a little on the I4 TDIs in that the cheat which is illegal in the US isn't actually illegal in Europe but some CO2 ratings may be understated - so the fix, in Europe, is a software update with the 1.6 getting an additional "flow transformer" - workshop times are 30 mins for the 2.0/1.2 and 60 mins for the 1.6

Aussies will need to make their own interpretations as emissions regulations are usually introduced after Europe itself.

I want to believe it, I'm due to pick up a new R-Line.

My heart says yes, my brain says no.
To convince your brain to say yes, Id use this saga and push for VW to throw in tinted front windows, tow bar and whatever else you can can think of that you would like in the option list.

At the moment, as a buyer the ball is firmly in your court. Take advantage of it

. . the above on the basis that you bought a vehicle with advertised performance and ecological standards that are now in severe doubt. You might consider getting these parameters restated and confirmed by the dealer in writing for future reference.

We were looking into getting a Touareg (NZ here but similar emissions regs as Aus?) and I brought up the EPA link about the 3.0 TDI being in the scandal now (http://www3.epa.gov/otaq/cert/documents/vw-nov-2015-11-02.pdf). This was the reply:

Hi Zach,

Subject: RE: Volkswagen Emission Issue update # 22

Good Morning

Brief update today;

1. Yesterday Volkswagen America offer affected customer a US$1,000 incentive payment.

- The US market is different to New Zealand as the affected vehicles are subject to significantly more stringent emission legislation in the USA and Canada.

- As a result customers will have to wait longer in the US & Canada for a remedial fix than other countries.

- However, I suspect our customers are not that interested in what is happening in the US, they just need to know what is going to happen here in NZ.

- Please assure them that we are working very hard with Germany on a complete package for our affected customers here in NZ. As soon as we have the details of the recall and the overall package finalised we will communicate to customers with haste. Our apologies for the time this is taking.

2. A point of clarification from last week, while we do not have any of the additional 800,000 vehicles effected by the Co2 issue here in NZ, we do still have 5,548 affected by the original nox based issue.

3. V6TDi. This vehicle still remains clear and free of any issues relating to this emissions issue. VW AG has emphatically stated that “no software has been installed in the 3-liter V6 diesel power units to alter emissions characteristics in a forbidden manner.”

Thank you for your patience and your continued focus on the business as usual as we navigate through this issue..

Any questions or queries please let us know.

Regards

"However, I suspect our customers are not that interested in what is happening in the US, they just need to know what is going to happen here in NZ." - that's just straight up BS.

VW Australia have now reconfirmed that the V6 & V8 TDI engines in Australian vehicles are not affected by any of the issues that are occurring in the USA.

The Australian engines comply with Euro 5 standards

A statement regarding this is again on the VW Australia website under the Q&A " are petrol vehicles affected by this issue "
