Hello to everyone.

I was wondering how that stuff works. I have read it uses a camera to recognise traffic signs showing them on the display.

Now some questions about it. Which camera does it use?? Is it the front camera of area view? The one for the Dymanic light assist?º

In case you have this camera installed, would it be possible to activate traffic signs recognition using VAG-COM???

Thank you very much in advance.

Fernando

Yes you are right. You need camera in the windsreen to activate traffic sign recognition system. This camera is used for lane assist function as well as for
. The fact that Kufatek sells just unit which just programs parameters of several controllers (I guess 17, 5F and 85) gives us hope that we can activate it ourselves - just need to know codings of that units from the car where traffic sign recognition is activated.

Do you have the Part number for the Windscreen camera and other parts necessary to retro fit ?

Thanks

Can someone with the correct camera on the windscreen, please take a post a picture to that we do not confuse with rain sensor camera?

Thanks for the pics and explanation. At least the Aust spec R-Lines has the bigger cover.

Not sure if they also exist on 180kw V6 TDi.

Does this guarantee that the camera is there?

I am surprised that Aust spec Touregs with the bigger cover did not enable traffic recognition out of the box.

I feel a conspiracy here. Could VW Aust have been convinced into disabling this feature even though they included the camera? Could the state governments have been involved so that they could raise more revenue from speed cameras. :)

Best way to check that you have camera is to connect VAG-COM (or similar tool) and check that unit 85 responds.

What you feel is not conspiracy but marketing. I'm not sure about your country but in Russia all cars with RNS-850 comes with bluetooth deactivated. If you want bluetooth you are forced to order Premium phone set for "just" 600 EUR (if you do not know that gyus from Touareg club can active BT for you for free in 5 minutes ;).

Same for auxilary heating - if you have diesel car without heating option then you do not have remote control for it but you also do not have it in RNS menu while heater is there and it is matter of few clicks to activete it in RNS menu.

I believe it is the same story with traffic sign recognition. All I need to check this theory is necessary binary codings from three units to try them on my car.

Thanks Henry.

Looks like I have the 85 control module. My earlier scan results below:

I thought that speed sign was not determined by camera but rather through a data package sent to the vehicle. I know that when I called Sirus/XM they mentioned that my car had some sort of Data package.

I would be curious to learn if the speed sign data was actually read with a camera.
