I have a blue 2004 Touareg that I bought brand new. This year the clear coat has fallen off of the hood, passenger side door and passenger side rear door. The dealer required three estimates from the body shops. I went to three body shops that I've dealt with for years, all extremely good reputations in town. While at the first one, the guy doing the estimate said he'd seen this happen to the same year Touareg before. On to the next shop. He looked at it and said he'd seen it on the same year Touareg only it was red. While sitting there another blue Touareg pulled in the parking lot. A lady came in and asked me if by chance I was here because of the clear falling off. Imagine that. Her Touareg looked just like mine. Two of the body shops told me that they're opionions, both the same, was that the base coat was allowed to dry too long before the clear was applied which caused it to not stick. The dealer here in Lincoln Nebraska asked his field rep about it and he said that his was the only dearship in the U.S. that had this problem. He and I both have anextremely hard time believing that. Three Touaregs in three hours in a little town like Lincoln in one day? Come on. Now they're real axious to get it fixed. I'm worried that we'll do that and the clear will fall off the other side after the warrany has expired. I think the whole thing should be stripped and re-painted. One German Automotive expert I talked to said that if there is a paint problem from the factory that it can take two to four years to surface. Has anyone else out there had their clear fall off the paint in chunks? If so I would be extremely gratefull to know so. Otherwise I love the Touareg. Thank you, Dave
