Don't think black had a problem, maybe it's just industrial fallout. The bubbles maybe park it in the sun or use a hair dryer carefully.Haven't seen any on mine yet, only a couple spots on the hood, that i may clay bar to see if they come off.If I see bubbles or clear coming off,I'll be at the Jeep Dealer getting a 09 Turbo diesel.

I just got declined on the warranty. They said that they could see a small rock chip on the hood and that caused the flaking. I still dont believe that the clear coat would flake from a rock chip.

I guess I'll just bend over and take it up the tailpipe again.

This post explains why I can't get rid of the "hard water" spots on the hood on my black 06 V8.

This really sucks the car is new to me with only 22k on her now. When I first washed and waxed her I noticed what look like hard water spots on the hood under bright light. Now after careful inspection I see some spots on the roof, fender and some small bubble patches on the pass side A pillar and roof line.

I'm seriously considering selling the car because of this. How am I supposed to walk into a dealership and demand they repaint my car be of these spots? I can just imagine their reaction now. I love the car but now I'm scared its going to look like crap before I even have it paid off!
Its Sad It has get to the point of loosing the clearcoat, please read this
Introduction to Car Detailing
Im really sure that after reading this you'll change your car washing habits.
I have Clay bared the complete carhttp://articles.autopia.org/articles/14-using-detail-clay-clean-your-cars-paint-1.html
also used the KLASSE Productshttp://www.autopia.org/reviews/censura.php?csid=bang0tn7lhpdf3riefov1dhbl4&cmd=vendor_info&vendorid=19 that are just something out of the real, and the overall out is that your car looks fantastic and at the end washing your car becomes 3 or 4 times faster and the best of all stays protected at least for six months!!!
repair what you need to repair
And seal it
you wont be disappointed

The spots are under the clearcoat. I have tried using the clay bar, 3m swirl mark reducer and Imperial Hand Glaze and the spots don't come off. I was going to try Zymol HD Cleanse but I'm convinced that this is clearcoat problem.

A clay bar only removes surface defects, and glaze isn't aggressive enough, try 3m Finesse 2,or meguiers polish and swirl remover.

Of course they are going to try and deny. Get a second opinion on the clear coat failure at a reputable paint and collision shop and call VW directly to get the regional QTM involved with the diagnosis.

Clear Coat Pealing

I have just read all of the clear coat horror stories and I am another! I also have a blue 2004 and there was a quarter sized spot where the clear coat began to peal...no under dent either!

I had an issue with rust on the inside seam of the passenger rear door and there as a quarter sized clear coat pop there also. Additionally, the clear coat is pealing off of one of the wheels!

I too this into the dealer and VW is willing to cover the rust issue...they think the weld wasn't good which caused the rust to occur and actually come through and bubble the outside of the door.

So, I get a call today from the VW dealer who is doing the work and he informs me that as they pealed the masking tape off of the T-egg, the clear coat just pealed off with the tape! He is contacting VW to see what the issue is and if they will be covering this...

Will post once all is completed~!

damn this is not good! reminds me of the buicks and certain colours peeling.. if they refuse to fix it everyone should get together and file something along the lines of a class action for the defect.

So, anybody have an update on this issue? My 04 Shadow Blue is peeling and my dealer (100 miles away) is willing to go to bat for me with the regional manager, but I'd like a little more ammo before I pursue this. My car is out of warranty so I'd like to know if anyone is getting VW to own up to this?

Thanks,

Paul

Last person to post about it was back in 08, so it does not appear to be a real common problem.

Followup: The regional manager said it wasn't VW's problem. No one admitted that the Shadows had peeling problems. I brought it to my local paint shop and he did a respray with good results. This was last year. I think I need to visit the forum more often! lol
