Missing key(s) for the roof rack

Just purchased a 2004 V8 and in going through what came with the car, realized that the key(s) to the roof rack are missing. Does anybody know if there is a stardard part number for the key, or is there a code on the roof rack that VW can use to order keys? When I called my local VW dealers parts department, they were not really sure how to go about replacing.

Armed with the lock code (on the lock cylinder -- letter with three numbers; eg, N017), either go to a rack specialist of to Thule's web site; you only need the number to buy extra keys. Skip your dealer's parts department, as they sound incompetent:p

Thule = great customer service

Well it could not be any easier. I called Thule, gave them the code (which incendently I was reading up side down...) and they will send me keys for.....FREE. You cannot beat that!!!

Alex, you read right. Free, nada, bupka's, gratis! Oh, BTW that would be the stock racks, not aftermarket.

There is a 4-Digit code (Letter, followed by 3 numbers) on the area where the key is inserted into the lock. You will need that number.

When I bought my Treg the dealer didn't have the keys for the rack, so they took it to a locksmith and had a whole new lock and key made.

Well I called, they charged me $2.60 for 1 key. I asked them if they were free and the guy kinda chuckled and said "no". Still, less than 3 bucks is not bad..... I think this is the first non expensive thing that I have bought for the Treg!!!!! Yipeee!!!

Alex, that is funny! I even asked the person I spoke with if there was a cost and they said no... Now I hope I get my key.....
