Just got the Blackstone labs oil report back after the 20K oil change.
This is the first analysis on this engine after 20k mi and I have followed VW's oil change req. to the letter. Oil had 10k on it and is Elf LLX 507/504

From Blackstones report:
"10K oil change intervals maybe ok once your relatively new diesel finishes wearing-in. At 20K it hasnt accomplished that yet. Most new vehicle owners will change oil every 3k to 5k until 10k -20k miles. By that time a new diesel has matured and can handle longer oil runs. This one probably can too. For now we suggest shorter oil interval changes. 1.5 % of the sample was fuel, likely from city driving. Air and oil filtration were normal. Try a 3k oil change and check back."

The only value in the table that was out of what they call "universal averages" was iron
106 was my value, 27 is universal average.
All other parameters well under universal average.
I would have scanned the report but my vintage scanner wont play nice with my new Mac.

I am bringing in mine for it's 20,000 service on Monday. How do I send a sample into Blackstone labs and how much oil do they need? I would love to compare notes since I have changed oil every 5k using VW's oil.
Thank you

Check with your NAPA store. Wix oil filters offers oil analysis at a very resonable price. You get a box with two little bottles to fill with oil and a form asking what oil, vehicle, and miles. Report comes back faily quickly. We use it on all our equipment, even air compressors. Lets you know whats up.

NAPA filters part # 4077. Should be less that $20.00. Fill two small bottles and mail it in.

these samples are relatively cheap and so you don't get wear debris analysis (MPA) and an ISO cleanliness, both these are very important to identify the actual wear modes..
