    Hey Dude,
my name is Nate. I recently purchased a 2008 V8 FSI rig. Purchased the vehicle 2 weeks ago and have been becoming acquainted since. While doing a recent oil change, I noticed what appeared to be seepage/weeping around the transmission pan as well as an accumulating drops at the base of the bell housing.

I recalled you may have dealt with a similar issue and was wondering if you have got it figured out? I have a hard time accepting it is indeed the rear main, based on the condition/service history and relatively low mileage and the fact that this doesn't seem to be a reported issue by Touareg owners. I'm hoping it may be residual from one of the other more common leaks (PCV, valley pan, oil filter housing, valve covers etc...) Your thoughts??

    Many thanks!!!! Nate.

Hi, I read your thread on rear maim/bell housing/turbo blow by. Just wondered whay the outcome was? I'm in the process of purchasing 08 t2 and had an independent check. Check revealed oil near rear of engine. Initial thought were rear main, but further investigation suggests oil from turbo on rear right side of engine. VW technician tells me it's normal oil from turbo blow-by. Does this sound credible? Should I check for leaking oil seal or other issues?

I thought exactly the same thing which is why I was surprised at such a noticeable difference. Perhaps there is a limit to how "free-flowing" this exhaust should be? All I know is that after my initial review I gave you the only update I would have is that it is still a little on the loud side for my tastes, mostly during warm up. Otherwise, the sound under WOT and the power increase still make me happy (for now). ;-)

I guess a better way of describing the exhaust note on the single canister is that it has more of a "tuned" sound rather than just a wide open roar that sounds like it could be coming out of a Detroit muscle car as opposed to a refined German V8. There is still quite a roar but the packing in the XL tends to absorb the higher frequencys which leaves you with a kind of "muddy" low-end blast of noise. The single canister has three chambers in it. I think an audio clip is worth a thousand words as the differences are kind of hard to describe. I'll try to get a good clip in the next week or so. Also, I'm just running stock secondary cats but I'm wondering if the resonated bypass is next on my list. I'm already enjoying the noticeable difference in power going from the XL to the single canister.

If you look at the filter housing you will notice that the front of the box has a large round protrusion on it. This is where the outlet for the Cayenne's intake is located and the smaller outlet that the Touareg uses on the rear is sealed. I noticed that there is a smaller outlet below this larger sealed outlet as well that literally has a cap on it that can be removed. I'm guessing this is also utilized on certain applications; turbos perhaps? It would appear the manufacturing process takes all possible applications into account and they remove sections as needed. You can see most of this without taking anything apart. I think this bodes well for the possibility of seeing gains although probably not on the scale that the Cayenne's larger and higher compression V8 gets.

Now to the intake portion. Rob took measurements of everything and should have something figured out in the near future. It looks like it will be a fairly easy thing for him to make and I offered to be the guinea pig, I even said he could feel free to do some dyno runs. ;-) I think his biggest issue will be making the bend which is a slightly acute angle in a tight space. He of course wants to make it look good too so it will take some time to get the final design figured out. The airboxes are exactly the same as the Cayenne but they use the larger outlet that is capped off on the front and the smaller one that our V8 uses out of the rear is capped. Rob mentioned the gains are significant on the Cayenne so I'm hoping that regardless of the intake outlet used on this airbox, we will see similar gains. Sorry if I'm retreading what is already known as I am new to the discussion. I'll let you know if I hear anything else.

Well, I now have the fifth one of these ever made by Rob and the first one to be installed on a Touareg. Initial impressions are as follows: This exhaust looks fantastic and sounds amazing. I have noticed a definite increase in performance over the XL and stock exhaust as well and the WOT sound is perfection! The V8 sounds a little higher pitched than the XL makes it and this gives it that distinctively tuned sound that I was originally after. One thing to note is that it sounds louder upon startup and then smooths out when it is warmed up. The resonance in the cabin is very tolerable and I can now hear my stereo again at low levels. All in all, I am quite pleased so far but will give it a week or so before I fully commit to saying this is "the one."
