Aftermarket radios have caused a lot of problems for VW. If VW would just release a universal adapter or the pinouts to make one, it would solve a lot of issues. I have seen it stated on the forums that at least one of the major sources has incorrect wiring information. If you follow those directions you will disable at least one of the canbus wires. The canbus is the ethernet of the car, every car module is hooked into it and uses it to talk to the other modules.

There are two canbus wires in all Touaregs. They can referred to as can high and can low. When both are working, the system can communicate in high speed mode. If one is lost, the system then works in a low speed mode.

The situation is so bad that most VW dealers will not work on a vehicle with a aftermarket radio. You have to pull and unplug the radio before going to the dealer. If the radio is connected to the vehicle, no dealer service.

google.com/search?q=vw+aftermarket+radio+issues

There is nothing wrong with aftermarket radios in the Touareg, but getting them properly wired is much more tricky then in other vehicles.

All over the car i find wires that are extended in a sloppy way, don't understand why (

Cleaned up LPG wiring and solved one problem: i now have a accurate reading of LPG tank filling )
Cleaned up radio wiring

I check things, a little every day ... rodents don't seem responable, didn't find any proof of them being there

Checked fuses and relays feeding engine ECU, no problems there

Still a lot to check ...
