How to clean the headliner?

My headliner (light gray) has some crusties on the A pillar. You can tell that the previous owner just rested their hand there while driving.

Anyhow - how to clean it? Any pointers?

This is what I use. Been using it for at least 6 years. Works great!

Have you used that on light color fabrics? If so, how (dilution, brush / rag?, etc).

Thanks!

Clean microfiber cloth. Very small amounts and sometimes I then take another cloth with water to dilute it. Work on small area first. Headliner dries quickly. My headliner is light and was light on my '07 Touareg, too.

I use baby wipes. Those things will clean just about anything without side effects.

Always clean with the least aggressive product for the job. Use warm "Distilled "water in a squirt bottle. Spray the entire area and let soak for a few minutes. Dampen a white terry cloth towel with warm "distilled" water and wipe clean. Repeat process as needed until stain is removed. remember that the cloth will look darker until it dries.

Thank you for the suggestion on VW's cleaner, Fincher. That is one VW Car Care product I have not used yet, but will find some. When I bought my 2013 Lux, the Cornsilk Beige headliner had a few dirt smudges on it. For years I have used Blue Coral upholstery cleaner for jobs like this and it worked great.

Had to remove some tar from beige carpets recently. Used WD-40 applied with a cotton bud working from the outside of the tar spot to the inside. Then a household foaming carpet cleaner.
Worked a treat.
