V10 Actuator Rebuild Recommendations ....

Hi everyone .

Question here from the UK ..... I have searched and found a few threads relating to problems with these actuators and turbos .... but none seem to really help me , i think i need to ask specifically for advice .

I have been having intermittent problems with the car massively loosing power , usually on cold startup , but being restored after a few minutes with a cycle of the ignition ... and it is worse in winter ... or maybe just getting worse ....

I have been to my local garage who i trust a lot .... they reckon my actuators have voltage issues and are not working correctly .... when i suggested rebuilding them the owner said he wouldnt recommend it as usually there was always underlying problems with the turbo units themselves , and i would be throwing away 4 or 500 pounds .... when i go back in a few months with the same problem ..... he isnt just trying to drum up an engine out for more business .... he really dosent need it .

I do kind of agree with him .... and if i was flush with cash i would say just do the turbos .... but i aint , And if i can save myself the extra 2k by spending 400 ... then i have to try ... even if the new actuators fail in a few months , at least i have tried ...

As its not now my daily driver , I have put it up on stands / blocks and now removed the actuators myself ..... its taken me a good few hours and was a twat of a job .... especially the drivers side , but i now have them both out ..... though i have no idea how i am going to get the damm things back in ...... I am not even thinking about that yet .

The actuator rods both seem to move very freely , and i will try to give them a serious working through their range before reinstallation .....

My question is who do i get to rebuild them ..... I have found two places on internet in the UK that have nice looking websites and seen up to the job ..... But i would like to ask if anyone has any personal experience using either of them , or even someone else they would recommend to rebuild their actuators ....

ECU Testing - Volkswagen TOUAREG 4.9 TDI PD Actuator (Turbo) - Part No: 712120 / 6NW008412

Turbo Rebuild Ltd - https://www.turborebuild.co.uk/electronic-actuator.html

Both of these look fine to me , but you never know ..... going to try and call them both today .....

PS car is a 2004 V10 with 89000miles on the clock ..... lovely car , running great , ive had it about 2 1/2 years now with no real issues ... love it ....

cheers

Ian
