CP4 to CP3 Fuel Pump Upgrade

So I'm looking into replacing the CP4 High Pressure fuel pump with a CP3.

The reason is two fold: 1) reliability and to prevent replacing of injectors if a CP4 decides it's had enough and becomes damaged, 2) to support higher fuel flow for tuning at higher HP numbers

So far it looks like there are several versions of the CP3 with an R and L designation. It appears the R is for right hand rotation and the L is for left hand rotation. There is also an 85, 90, 110 corresponding to ml/revolution.

As I have a CP3 from a Duramax on my bench... it appears the CP3s also have a mechanical gear type lift pump to get fuel from the tank. What is not clear to me is if all CP3s have this lift pump or only some of them.

I started this thread to discuss upgrade paths and parts required for upgrade, as the kits available are expensive and don't seem to be very specific in terms of what is required to do the swap.

The tuning aspect of it as well as apparently some of the CP3s are only designed for 1800 bar and others are capable of 2000.

There are also some details of the pressure control valve/solenoid (not sure which it is at the moment) needing to be adjusted or looked at and possible tuning of the fuel pressure by a tuner.

There are vendors who offer conversion kits if you search hard enough...... guys like the 500hp dude that I recently posted video of, have maxed out the injectors so have now started to bump up the pressure in order to get more fuel..... I could be wrong, but IIRC, all CP3s used a lift pump in their original setups

Yes but I already have a CP3 the question is whether it will work or if I have to buy another one. And then a question of what mounting is required.

I've seen "mounting kits" which include everything required minus the pump..... this is probably what you want in your case since you already have the pump.

Yes I think that is what I’m looking for. Though I have to verify L or R rotation of The Duramax pump I have

You will have many other things to figure out.... the pump sits on top of the V between the cylinder banks... I haven't seen many details about how its mounted or what it needs to clear.... but you'll need to work with whatever space you have and make adapters for things like the required drive gear, etc...... lots of fun.

No idea.... said no one ever......

Here's what should exist in your current engine..... If you already have your Duramax unit, compare it for a rough idea of how they are different.

Garage
Did the early 3.0L Touareg's have a CP3 pump ? I only see a listing on Darksides for the 240 CASA.
