2011 TDI, exhaust caught by the vortexes behind the car

In my old 2004 3.2 V6 petrol the exhaust would make two smoking stripes in the road when applying a good measure of throttle.

In my 2011 V6 TDI the exhaust just get caught in the drag vortexes behind the car and it looks like the entire end of the car is on fire. Not giving any impression of style nor good design.

Anybody have a similar experience or solution?

The design on the exhaust tips are different, but the entire bumper on the 2011 is shaped around the tips and replacing the tips would just look weird.

My 2010 T2 does the same thing. Almost any modern car will if it has some decent aerodynamics. Because it's so cold here in the winter, I see it all day long on pretty much every car. Only pickups with the tail pipe sticking out the side do it differently.

Not sure why you think it is a poor design.
