I drove a 2010 V6 today that was maticulously maintained, 65,000 miles and was really quiet when idling at a stop light, etc. My question (and I know not seeing the car yourself it may be hard to determine) but generally do the engines sound loud in this car? I currently drive a X5 with a V6 (torque) and it drives sturdy and isn't super quiet, but this VW is loud as you accelerate until it levels off. The dealership is reputable and said it's how they drive, but thought I'd join here and get expert opinion. Nothing sounded 'off' with the engine (no skipping sounds, ticks, etc.) it just felt like there was a truck engine inside the hood if that makes sense.

Any advice would be appreciated! I really liked the car. Thanks! Rinn

Find and test drive another one or three.

It's the only way to check.

VW Touareg models are as follows:
Generation 1: T1 is model 7LA & facelift T2 is model 7L6
Generation 2: T3 is model 7P5 & facelift T4 is model 7P6
Generation 3: T5 is model CR7 [Not available in "VW Atlas" North America!]

These engines do have a "nice" growl to them. I have a 3.2 and a 3.6, and the former is quieter than the latter but upon heavy acceleration you can still hear the "nice" growl although not like the 3.6 which really raises eyebrows (are we in a Touareg or a Cayenne?? I just smile). Both have stock exhausts.

2009 T2 Shadow Blue 3.6L V6 (BHK 206KW), 18" Valley rims, Vavona wood package, Pure Beige leather interior, sunroof
2005 T1 Blue Silver 3.2L V6 (BMV 177KW), 18" Manhattan rims, wooden steering wheel and shift lever, otherwise pretty basic (being prepared for sale)
