Engine coming out- What to fix... Need some Info

I posted this earlier with no responses, so I will try again.

Long story short- The dealer, during a routine oil change, restripped the upper oil pan plug hole they stripped ("fixed" w/heli-coil) two years earlier. Tried to fix with another insert and gooned it up, resulting in an oil pan replacement. This is a 2005 V8, by the way.

Bottom line- the engine is getting pulled on their dime- they are paying the labor costs. They want me to pay for the part, which I have countered with you pay for everything- I didn't cause the problem.

OK- worst case (not to look a gift horse in the mouth)- I pay for the part.

Here's the advice I need-

First- If I have to buy the part(s), where is a reliable, reasonable source? I don't really want to pay their prices, but I also understand they may say no to parts from an outside vendor.

Second- What else should I get done while the engine is out? Belts/pump/tensioner are about half way through their prescribed life (3 years/33K mi since last done. Alternator is "OK." I only say OK since the month before the oil change, I noticed that the output would drop occasionally from 14v to the 13.25-13.75 range. Anything else? Plugs, filters...?

Unless your 4.2 is leaking oil or something, you dont really need to replace anything. I would only recommend replacing what i linked above. After a while, that little plastic piece goes and needs to be replaced. it is easier to replace with the engine out compared to a 8 hr job with it in.

If you want your treg to run tip top, i would check the changeover valves in your intake manifold, they sieze and cause your treg to loose power. Audi\vw will want you to replace the whole intake mani but you can repair for free.
