2009 V6 toureg started running like crap

Started yesterday with MIL light on which I read to be a p code bank 1 and 2 system lean condition. I checked all the obvious MAF sensor etc, but when I opened up my hood I heard a massive vac leak coming from what appears to be a small hole in a black box on the back of the valve cover. I have researched and found this to be the PCV. I have read one other guy ended up having the dealer replace his cover to the tune of $1000. I am a mechanic and can get the parts for just shy of $300.00 but want some assurance I'm on the right track would hate to throw 300.00 and my time out the window if it is something else causing this.

Thanks for any info

Look very closely and very carefully at the rev counter needle at tickover.

Is it moving up and down slightly by about 50 [yes, 50 not 500] RPM?

If you blip the throttle [stationary and in PARK] to 3,000 RPM and release do the revs drop immediately or do they take their time to come back to tickover?

Has the engine squealed like a stuck pig at any time?

I have been working on cars all my life and have never heard the term Tickover ?? With a vacuum leak the cars IDLE will be all over the place, and this thing is sucking Air like crazy so the idle is erratic. Based on other research I am making a huge assumption that the black square box is indeed part of the PCV system and that it should not EVER suck air from the small factory placed hole up top. With that said because I don't know how and what the design intent by the Germans was with a non-removable PCV system I turn to you guys. So I will order up the non repairable/cleanable integrated PCV valve cover today.

Hi. New to the forums. But having the same issue. Heres how I found out it was my pcv valve. It was funny to me due to the fact I got frustrated poking around nd found nthng. Found a vacuum air sound from the PCV and hit it lol.

Thank you!

So far having this Treg for just over 10,000 miles < (LOL 10k) I've flushed the coolant, changed the oil n filter, changed the fuel pumps, & alternator (darn water cooled alternators.) Wish I made DIY videos for them now.
