Will it work with this?
My car definitely does not have the amp. Unless it's somewhere other than next to the cd changer.

All of the 2004 with the factory nav system had the digital amp in the back, near the cd changer.

I would need to double check to be 100% sure, but the non nav system (repeat, I think) lacked the amp.

2004 2005 with the cd nav system should have the digital amp. 2004 2005 with the basic radio should lack the amp.

Amp sits on top of the cd changer in the rear cargo area.

My car is a 2004 V10 so it had the Nav as standard.
You can see in the photo above that the amp is not there.

It's still the stock head unit, it definitely says "Radio Navigation S2" when it is first turned on, and is not a DVD unit.

I have heard of a 10 speaker system vs the 11 speaker premium system.
That might explain why I don't have the amp.

DVD navs are different and appeared in the 2006 model year. They used regular speaker out to run the a conventional analog amp.

2004-2005 CD navs were 100% digital. The digital out was ran to a digital amp that ran the speakers.

Not all V10's had the Nav installed, but most were loaded, so most did.

If you have the red MFI display, you did not have the Nav system from the factory.

There were 3 ways to have the color MFI.
1. You had Air Suspension.
2. You had NAV.
3. You had both.

So, even having the color MFI did not guarantee that you had the Nav system.

You could recode the CD Nav unit to do analog speaker out, so it was possible to retrofit the Nav into a 2004 that came with the radio. You could put it into a unit that had the regular radio installed, but you had to do some wiring as the regular radio and the cd nav used different electrical plugs.

As far as I knew, 100% of the nav systems in 2004-2005 were shipped with the speaker out disabled. Once again, they did digital out to run a digital amp in the rear cargo area. There was a 10 vs 11 speaker system, so it is possible that there was a difference that I was not aware of.

Find the build sheet for your V10. We can decipher the codes and tell you 100% what options were factory installed. You can find one copy in the original manual and there is one copy located in the rear spare tire area.

The dealer can also do a build sheet from your VIN.

Also, the parts department can enter your VIN number at the dealership. They should be able to quickly tell you what the radio was factory installed. They should be able to tell you if an amp was installed also and give you the part number for that amp.

When they give you prices, you can just say "Wow! I will to think about that. It will be expensive.

Perhaps some info on these threads will help. I does appear the 8RV did not have the factory digital amp. It uses the speaker out setting. This greatly simplifies things.

You should also be able to use the Touareg factory style android radio in this unit. The problem is most do not work with the digital amp. Since the 8RV build option does not have the digital amp, you should be covered. It may or may not require some wiring changes. No idea if it is direct plug and play.

*FIY: If you have the factory backup camera, it will not work. It does not output a composite video signal, it uses a proprietary signal.
