replacing dust and pollen filter element

hello. here i will explain how to replace the dust and pollen filter element. or what is commonly known as A/C air filter. this is on my 2005, V6.
it should be the same for V8 and for new models as well.
i needed to replace the filter, because i felt that its blocked by dust, because we are in a sand storm for more than 6 weeks now . and im always using A/C.
the filter is located inside the front passenger footwell.
all u need to do is to pray off the front passengers footwell cover ( black, where the footwell light is ) from the middle carefully. it should come out easily. using a wedge might help, but i didnt need anything to remove it.
after its been out of its front mounts. unplug the wires to the footwell light. and pull the cover out away from its rear mounts.
then you will notice, on the center console side, the filter housing. covered by a plate that is fixed with 2 screws. the socket size that should fit, is in SAE size. not metric (because its larger than 5mm and smaller than 6mm ). and since i had non. i used an adjustable wrench to remove them ( VERY easy ). then pull the cover to open.
after opening, gently press on the housing, and the filter should fall down.
remove it by squeezing it from the middle, its very simple.
clean it using blower, or replace the filter.
just remember for fitting, you must make sure that the filter guide is in proper position where it should fit on the filter housing.
put everything back on.
enjoy.
im listing pictures that should help.

Having a right hand drive vehicle some of the user tips can become lost in our market, but saying that it is good to see that the fliter is also on "our" passenger side (the left hand side).
I just followed the directions and was able to carry out this simple task....now were is my battery again

Thumbs up

Thanks for the tips, it was great knowing I needed a 5.5 mm socket. I bought a cheap kit from AutoZone that included a 5.5mm socket for around $6.

I pulled the filter out and thought I'd offer some lessons learned.

1. if you've got really bad allergies, you might want to get a fan out to blow the dust away when you pull the cover off. Mine had never been replaced, Date of MFG was 10/2003 and all sorts of debris fell out. I'm not terribly allergic but my eyes were itching a few minutes into it.
2. I'm a big guy, my garrage is small so I couldn't open the door all the way, not a good idea, I bumped the door into the wall, no harm done but unless you're a yoga master perform this service where you can open the door fully
3. Have a vacuum handy for clean up

Good luck.
ps. pics attached of my filter and all the debris/gunk

One more step for 4 zone or '08

There is one more step. Probably a 4 zone issue vs. '08 (T2) issues, but there is a little piece of duct that you need to pull out of the way to gain access to the filter cover. No big deal, just has some friction clips to hold it in place. Thanks for the right up and pics though. Wouldn't have had the confidence to keep pulling on the cover if I didn't know it would come down. The clips were pretty tight on mine! Thanks again.

For those concerned about a 5.5mm socket/nut driver - you can use a 7/32 socket/nut driver with no problem on this job.
