Good tip! And I think that's a new one on the parking brake operation too!!

VW Touareg models are as follows:
Generation 1: T1 is model 7LA & facelift T2 is model 7L6
Generation 2: T3 is model 7P5 & facelift T4 is model 7P6
Generation 3: T5 is model CR7 [Not available in "VW Atlas" North America!]

To release the park brake without the hard resistance you get when you pull the release cable I push my foot down on the park brake pedal and then pull the release cable and lift my foot off the pedal while I let the release cable go.
To avoid applying excessive force on the handle, what i do is, I hold the handle but apply the force using my thumb. This way the pull is straight and unless you have a 6 inch thumb the pulling action stops just in time for brake to be released.
