Start/Stop stopped! Bugger, started again.

For the last few days the start stop did not operate at all. Good, I said. Then I started to fiddle with the switch (as I can't stand anything not working properly.) and still it refused to work. I was pondering whether to actually report it the next time it was serviced and at that precise moment it kicked in again.
Has anyone else had this happen?

I don't recall such an issue.

If you don't like/trust stop/fart you can use VCDS to reverse the priority of the switch so it is disabled unless you turn it on.

VW Touareg models are as follows:
Generation 1: T1 is model 7LA & facelift T2 is model 7L6
Generation 2: T3 is model 7P5 & facelift T4 is model 7P6
Generation 3: T5 is model CR7 [Not available in "VW Atlas" North America!]

It is possible that your car was going through some transient state that prevents the start/stop from functioning, like recharging a low battery voltage or regeneration of the DPF. When that task is completed it returns to normal.

But it can also leave you with a dead engine just at the moment you REALLY need it.

Find someone with VCDS and get the priority reversed.

Garage
The system is supposed to be doing a continuous "battery percentage charged" calculation.

If the battery is below a certain percentage of charge, the auto-stop-start system is supposed to turn off. This is to prevent you from being stuck with a dead battery in the middle of traffic.

Once the battery is fully charged, the system would reactivate.

Well we had been away for a couple of weeks, trialling our new motorhome on the Yorke Peninsula, and the battery is coming up on 8 years old, so you are most probably right. I'll get the battery checked next service. Thanks, all.
