Hey there everyone.
Just had vehicle serviced and the recommendation has been made to replace battery. I felt that it had been getting a bit doughy, so seems to be on the money. As usual, Dealers have given a quote of $620.00 plus fitting for 'GENUINE' battery.
Anyone have any suggestions for a particular brand of battery? How big a job is it to fit in the 2014 models? I will probably get local sparkie to do the fit, but any hints would be useful. Thanks in advance.
It's a bit of a chore to replace the battery as its under the passenger seat. If your model has the 'stop start' function then you will pay $350 - $400 for the correct rated battery plus fitting so $620 probably isn't that bad.
Not surprised your battery is a bit slow where you live, the southern slopes do get a bit nippy in winter and the battery responds appropriately.
Would not be too concerned what the dealer says, they need to drum up business where they can, altough your battery is not top notch based on age it should last you a bit longer. Would you believe the OEM battery on my '08 was still cranking when I replaced it in late 2018?
That's weird! Here in the States we can get one from Advance Auto parts fro $165, and easily get a 25% discount using retailmenot.com for a price of less than $124, if you install it yourself (it is NOT rocket science!)
The battery will cost around $300. so if you can do it yourself it is well worth the saving you need to get under the passenger seat which can be a bit of a task for some one who has never done it before I have replaced mine but I am experienced have a look and judge for your self. Im not sure but have a look at google there will be a you tube on the subject

I replaced mine on my '11 FSI myself. It was super easy.
Bought the battery in the 1st link below . Did it online and saved 25% plus free shipping to my door.
I think in total was $225 delivered which included a $22 core charge for the old battery. It was a perfect fit.
I sold the old battery which was still good to someone at work who wanted a battery for a project car for the core charge.
It took me ~ 45 minutes to change mine and that was with a Cig n' Coffee break.
All you need is the proper tools. Check out the 2nd link for a forum members tutorial.
Coding for the new battery is done with VCDS. It's basically to "reset" the calculations for the B.E.M (battery energy management) system. Some say it's not necessary if it's the same Amp hour #, others say it is necessary.
RACQ changed mine for me a couple of years ago for about $420 in my 2013 V8tdi r-line. Didn't have to lift a finger and they had to hook the car up to their computer as well to do something with the car. Mine was a big thumper of a battery. It's apparently the biggest one you can get before going to truck batteries.
Ps. Just for kicks. My father has recently taken delivery of a second hand 2018 Audi SQ7. Animal of a car!! But the battery is beneath the drivers feet. Makes getting to the battery really easy.
I had my AGM battery in my 2012 passat was struggling to start the car, turned out that the fluid level in the cells were too low. I refilled with distilled water and the battery is still good.
Looking at getting a 2011 treg.

G'day roalco
In my case, i removed the stickers on top of the oem battery, underneath those stickers were the caps. I unscrewed the caps, saw the very low acid level, topped up each cell, I didn't put it on a charger, just topped up the acid levels and the battery is cranking like new.I can't remember the brand..........varta, maybe. That was near on 12months ago.
