Bought a “fixed” 2010 TDI
Happy to back in a Touareg after several years. Recently heard VWoA was selling fixed Touaregs at Manheim Atlanta, so I couldn’t resist. Many are showing up online now, so I thought I would post a quick review of my experience.
The driving experience is just as I remembered, same power and feel. This is my 4th Treg and, to me, the 2009-2010 TDI is as good as it gets. I love the solid feel, looks, handling, economy, driving experience and most everything about it. For some reason the T3’s never grew on me. With about 80k miles on the clock, I had less than $12k all-in in my new Treg.
Driving the “fixed” version really isn’t noticeable except for the first few miles of the day. It certainly seem to hold higher RPMs than what I remember until warmed up. I read that the downhill downshift was eliminated, but mine behaves just like my pre-fix models. I’ve put 3000 miles on it in 3 weeks and am averaging just over 26 MPG. The only difference that I see here is that the MFD is more accurate than my previous models. Not sure if this was part of the fix or incidental, but my other Tregs were more optimistic with reported MPGs.
One of the reasons that I picked this one was it had nearly new Continental DWS tires. We all know the 19” options aren’t great and are expensive. Turns out this was a moot point. I hoped the highway vibration was an out of balance tire. It was not. The tires were so flat-spotted that they weren’t coming back. I replaced them last week with a set of Nankang NS 25 from Amazon for $81. At that price, I figured why not? After 500 miles, I’m actually impressed with them.
One other issue from sitting that I did not anticipate is the headliner collapsed within a week of using. Looks like this will be an expensive fix. Other than that, it’s a rock solid truck. Everything works like one would expect and I couldn’t be happier driving a T2 TDI again.
