Does administration control banner ads?

A banner ad on this forum is advertising Volkswagen Touareg GF Performance Chip Kit for Touareg. It is VERY deceptive. They display a image of a ROM chip for a ECU module but in the fine print they state it is really just a Box with two wires that wires across the Intake Temperature Sensor Resistor. These IAT sensor resistor modifications have been well tested and don't provide the improvement claimed in the promotional text associated with the ad. Plus, they are charging $ 69 for a 50 cent resistor, 25 cents worth of wire, and a 50 cent plastic box. Don't waste your money!

Actually, I have thought about it and I suggest everyone click that ad and go to their site then just surf away and don't buy anything. They pay for every click form our site to their site lets burn up their money maybe we can make their costs so high that they eventually stop their deceptive banner ad on our site due to the cost of clicks versus no buys.

Thanks, Nick. I realize the ads are a necessary evil to keep our site free. But I wish there was some more vetting of the advertisers by the companies that sell the banner ads.

By using Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox, I never see these ads. Maybe you should try it.

My experience has been that Google uses your search cache to generate ads for sites that you visit that run google ads. For example I was looking for a new ski jacket last week and when I came on here there was an ad for some ski specialty shop....

That is exactly my experience.

It's both funny and creepy

I use Internet Explorer Version 9.0 and found an add-on called Simple Adblock that I just installed that is now blocking ads like the one on this site. Thanks for the discussion it motivated me to see if adblock had a Microsoft IE version - it does.

I just did this for Chrome after I read your post. It works flawlessly. No more ads. Thank you for YOUR motivation
