Tailgate conversion

I have a 2014 Touareg V6 which is a great motor but lacks an electric tailgate. I'm told by VM garage in UK that there is no retrofit available for this model. Is this correct?

There is no official retrofit. I am sure it can be done.

The early units used a hydraulic pump to do the open close. I think 2009 or 10 was the last year for these.

The later units just added motorized gas struts to open the door. Replace the regular gas struts, add the correct wiring, There is a close switch to add in the truck and perhaps or perhaps not a open close sensor. Then code the modules. That should do it.

Looks like at couple of grand with the kit from Kufatec and fitting.

Easier to buy another Touareg that has power tailgate already fitted or another Treg for parts.

If you are OK with removing trim, installing items (power struts, modules, coding via software, wiring harnesses, etc... ) then go for it. A neat job to do. If you think 2K is pricey, then maybe doing it by hand is OK!
