New Key

Hi guys

To cut a long story shot - I need a new key thanks to the dealers being knob heads, I don't want to get one from them as they are quoting around 275.

Been looking on the net, various sites explain how to code it yourself etc, but the casing, get it cut etc

Just wondered whether anybody else has done this already and how easy it is or whether theres any good tips or advice?

Cheers

Even a ebay key will still need the dealer to program the RFID for the immobilizer. you can do the lock buttons but it won't start the car.

This has been asked many, many, many times.

There's no way round it.

Just bite the bullet and buy it from the dealer but you should only be paying 200-240.

And don't faff about thinking you can be clever about it, get it bought AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - WITHOUT DELAY - as I can assure you that whilst you only have the one key you're almost certainly going to be at the mercy of Sod's Law and lose or mislay the one key you have or, as I did, manage to lock the key in the car with engine running and the lights on in the middle of nowhere and me standing outside in the pissing rain on a cold winter's night with no coat or hat and looking at my mobile phone sitting on the dashboard . . .

Not at all, they have a multi-million pound investment employing well trained polite staff to deliver the best possible service to nice customers and they need to charge for parts and their time at appropriate levels. You can either pay them or ride a bike!

Or call them stealers!

We bought our treg as a private dealer, and i had him get me a second key (since the 'second' he gave me was for a different car). I think the kay and fob was over $360 CDN, and programming was $55, which is half their hourly labour rate.

i did get a free car wash though

THe dealer explained to me that the key needs to be inserted into the ignition to program the transponder.

I went in last week - had the dealer order me a key, and also took them an egay key that was uncut, so I could use the transponder in a bypass for remote start.

A Keg machine, eh?

Don't they dispense beer and lager?

That's cool, but don't drive and drive, you might spill it!
