Out for dinner tonight, my wife and I parked the V10 next to a T3 TDI Touareg.

Is it wrong I want to meet its owner to ask how s/he likes it?

It's scenarios like this that I wish I had business cards made for Club Touareg. Getting other Treg owners, (especially TDI drivers, in my case) is beneficial!

  • 2007 VW Touareg V10 TDI (black exterior/teak cricket leather; rear diff locker, tow package) [wife's daily driver]
  • 2010 BMW 335d (M-sport package) [my daily driver]
  • 1990 Volvo 740 GL sedan (5-speed M/T) [~330,000 miles with original transmission + engine]

Several times I have been asked how I like my Touareg. I am happy to give an honest response that I am very happy and give any other details they request.

On the other hand, I am reluctant to ask anyone else what they think because I do not want to give an opportunity for somebody to give their tales of woe. It is OK to discuss these things on the Internet because you can opt out if the topic becomes tedious.

Hey, it’s like between fishermen – hi, how are you doing, fish biting or not, nice boat and so forth and so on… and no one takes any offense. And if the guy is not in a mood or simply a guy random in fishing and knowing nothing about the brotherhood rules – then you’ll learn it quickly enough to pull back without feeling embarrassed.

Yeah, I kinda get it.
In spite of the issues I've had with the Treg (headlights, water on the carpet (plugged condensate pipe) multi function display, and heater A/C blower motor dying I still love the car and have decided it is a car for tinkers. Never liked being a mechanic for pay, but don't mind tinkering with my Treg.

While driving back from the apple orchard in Northfield today, we were at a red light in IGH/Farmington. Whenever I see another Treg, I'm hoping its driver is as excited and enthusiastic about his/her rig as I am about ours.

I got my first fellow driver "affirmative" head nod today, from someone driving a really sharp black T3. Dorky, but it made my afternoon to finally see another Touareg driver on the road who doesn't look completely oblivious and unaware of the awesome vehicle they're piloting.

I think I found the Touareg capitol of America - Charlottesville, VA. I saw 6 different Touaregs there in a day and a half. I was in a rental Chrysler 200 though, and was too embarrassed to acknowledge any of them....

Stop up to MN, specifically the Minneapolis/Saint Paul metro. I see about a half a dozen in my tiny 10 mile radius from home to work each day.

The other side of this coin is that whenever I see someone in an X5 I feel a little bit sad for them!

Interesting! I was just shocked by the number in Charlottesville because it is such a small town.
