Getting the off-roading itch

So, I've had my Touareg for 9 days now. I have 19" summer performance tires on there. I've been looking like crazy for some off-roading wheels and tires. I've got a couple leads from a couple members on here, but nothing solidified as of yet. I am getting really anxious to do some off-roading this year!

If anyone else has some 18" wheels that you're looking to get rid of, let me know!

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHH I am itching sooooooooooo bad to do some off-roading soon!

With a V8, you can go down to 17" wheels too. Even more sidewall, and the possibility of 265/70-17 BFG AT's or Nitto Terra Grapplers.

Gone, but never forgotten: 2005 V6, Shadow Blue/Kristal Grey, Package 1 (Xenons/Sound 1)

Bye bye Blue...

I hear ya -- 17" would definitely be better than 18"s for off-roading, but I found a good deal on some used 18" wheels. I'd like to go with a 255/60/18 off road tire. Does that sound like a reasonable setup for off-roading?

I just mounted 4 General grapper HTS on 17" rims. We went to Arkansas and I was very impressed with these tires. The are very quiet on the highway with none of the hum of more agressive tires, but handled everything we could throw at them off road.
There are quite a few trails near the buffalo river and Eureka springs area of the Ozarks. Dry creek beds and limestone rock trails mostly; we didn't get into any mud but I imagine the would handle that as well. $600 for all four with a $50 rebate from tire rack.

Just bought some General Grabber 255/60/18s today as well as some used TSW Montage 18" rims today from a member on here. Should get them mounted this weekend!

Ok, just bought Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails, 2nd Edition off Amazon just now. Can you tell I'm a little excited to take advantage of my Treg?

I would go bigger than 255/60R18 for offroading. I like my 265/60R18 wranglers but I believe you can even go to 265/65R18 on the V8's.

I'm not planning on doing any serious crawling -- just some moderate trails. Maybe a difficult one on the lower end of the scale every now and then. These tires will do just fine.
