2015/6 used Touareg TDI pricing...

So I see a number of 2015 and 2016 Touaregs available online with fairly low miles with asking prices of $45,000 and more. Trying to wrap my brain around NADA and KBB values of $33,000-37,000 for CPO vehicles.

What am I missing here? I understand that these may be quality vehicles, but I am entering under 10,000 miles on both NADA and KBB and their numbers are very similar.

More to the point, are people really paying $51,000 for 3 year old cars?

I want to buy one, with a warranty, and am planning on paying cash. Not wanting to spend that much though.

Tdi models have a 10 year 120,000 mile emissions system warranty that will likely be sufficient to cover any major repair that would otherwise be $$$. I dont think a 3rd party or CPO is worth the $. Save that money for wear parts that are not covered under any warranty. If you have ti have a sub 10,000 mile example you will pay a hefty premium. A quick auto trader search brings up many TDIs with 30ish K between $25 and $35k and I think this is the sweet spot in the market right now.

These are very capable SUVs that are no longer in production (either Touareg or TDI). They can easily tow 7700 lbs. without issue, whereas the next capable SUV can manage around 5000 iirc. They are well equipped, have a great engine, and get quite decent mileage. There are very few similar SUVs in comparison.

Sure, you could find a cheaper SUV, but as previously pointed out, the Touareg comes with an incredible engine warranty, tows more, features, etc.

If you don't care about tow load, fuel efficiency, or warranty; perhaps you're better suited to purchase a used Exploder, Santa Fe, Yukon, etc.

A car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it (see Barrett Jackson). If a buyer is willing to pay 55k for one, then it's worth 55k. If a seller is willing to accept 30k for one, then it's worth 30k.

I am not quibbling about the market being what it is, I am just surprised that both NADA and Kelly Blue Book are so wildly wrong. I have never seen 40-50% market valuation errors before on any vehicle.

I want to buy one, and will pay what I have to, my commentary is merely on how wrong the guides are.

The CPO 24 month warranty, from a dealer or an assumable one from a private party, is all I was considering. If I find a vehicle that is no longer covered by that then I may consider an extended warranty but it won't be a certainty. For the rest of my "comfort zone" I figured the 10 year powertrain warranty has my back. The emissions fix warranty covers the fuel system, turbo and exhaust, but not the engine block.

I also want the ACC, which I believe was introduced in 2015 which is why I am focusing on 2015 and 2016.
