Last minute road trip out west

Hey, I hate to be THAT person who asks for advice without doing a thorough search through the threads- but I'm kind of pressed for time. Leaving on Friday from Pittsburgh pa towards Colorado/Utah. Will be stopping in col springs and trying to check out black canyon then to make it to moab and arches then Denver and breck before heading back. Not trying to do any masterful off roading due to lack of experience, 19" wheels and no full size spare. Would like some pointers on things I CAN get to (do have air ride and newish all season tires). Also, any info with relevant road closings or a good source for such info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Di

Good luck in the mountains out there if you just have all seasons and wide tires. They are under a winter storm watch at the moment in CO and not sure how long it is gonna last. If the tires are low profile I would not attempt much in Moab unless you are hiking it. No full size spare can get you into trouble out there on slick rock since the inflatable spare won't be of much help. I would sight see personally from the main roads if I were you. Before you look at my location and see I am in PA, I lived for 11 yrs in UT and just recently moved back. So I know how things can be out there. I am guessing you are gonna drop down and take 70 through CO to get to Moab in UT. 70 can be an interesting drive if not prepared when it is snowiing. Have a safe trip!!

Thank! It's useful info- I was planning on getting smaller wheels but never did so now it's too late. Prob won't attempt a whole lot other than main roads being a noob and all. You're in pa? It would be awesome to tag along sometime if ur doing something local

As Yetti said CO is getting heavy snow in the spots you mentioned but that can change day to day...for better or worse. Moab has not had that much snow but there is so much to see from the main roads that you don't need to go off road crazy. Plus without the right equipment and another vehicle to tag along with, you would want to stick to the easy stuff, nothing more than a 2 rating. There are some dirt roads that you can go on if the weather is good and no major rain, like Onion Creek. Check with local sources for daily conditions, and get a map and trail descriptions. A lot of areas do not get cell phone reception so be prepared.

I am not familiar with anything local as of yet other then Rauch Creek Offroad park. I as well as Schubie may check it out and report back once we do it. We have not decided on when to go as of yet. It is a complete trail system in PA near I believe Pottsville, but don't quote me on that. Since he and I have had experience offroad with our vehicals we want to check which trails are suited to the Treg before we try to get a group run together. I am thinking if we do it that the same rules used for the Rally in CO will probably apply to this as well. Meaning full size spare as well as other stuff to be pulled out or recovered with.

There is plenty and the weather varies all over Colorado. I have lived all over and now reside in Taos NM just below the Co Boarder. If your going to be in C Springs head up to Criple Creek and take Phantom Canyon down to Canon City dirt road but very cool ride. No need for much other than standard gear. Def take 160 if your down that far to Wolf Creek and over thru Durango and up thru Telluride back around to I-70 back to Denver Stop in Genwood and hit the largest hot springs the pool is amazing then 2-3 hours back to Denver.
