New Touareg - Sound System Upgrade
My first post on this forum. I very much appreciate the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences in this way.
I have recently taken delivery of a new Touareg V6 TDI that I intend using both as a tow vehicle for our caravan as well as a just a nice town car. Very pleased with it so far.
I am yet to arrange the tow-bar installation and the other electrical work needed to feed through to the van. I'm not intending to do any of this myself. The integrated nature of the various electrical systems in modern cars and my own very limited competence in this area make that a very easy decision in my case.
Separately, I am arranging for a car audio specialist to upgrade the sound system in the car. Personally,I think it's the one thing that's below
the spec of the rest of the car, well below in my view.
I'm OK with the sat/nav and the RNS 850 interface. I also want to minimise the risk of unintended consequences in playing with factory installed systems. Therefore I'm not intending to replace the head unit.
The plan is to piggy-back of the existing amp a more powerful amp, basically treating the existing amp as a pre-amp, and upgrade the speakers. I'm also intending to add a small sub-woofer, basically a large bass speaker, definitely not a boom box.
I am also thinking that the spare tyre cavity would be my preferred location for the new amp as it would provide easy access in the future, should that prove necessary.
I understand that the factory amp is behind the RHS rear cargo area panel, near the tail lights. Hopefully no need to go behind the dash?
If any of you have done anything similar I would appreciate any tips you might have or risks to manage so that I can let the respective installers know rather than have them (and me) discover the hard way. Any risk to the CAN/Bus in taking this approach?; greater power demands from the new amp?
Any comments would be appreciated...............
