Hi,
The Touareg features several CAN networks. Depending on what you want to connect, you would have to tap onto one or another.

What are you trying to install, and which network do you want?

Hi, Thanks I realise. And in my simple understanding of Can network I am looking for Can high and low- otherwise coming from Can gateway(located under dashboard) pins 21 & 5.
Any chance this is available under drivers seat?

Hello chewblekka,
Its the Can gateway high and low.
Trying to install a sound actuator- same as what comes in audi sq7.
The actuator module needs to connect to Can gateway, so then i can enable it via vcds and get it to drive the actuator.

The CAN bus has several different networks: powertrain, comfort 1 and 2, convenience, infotainment, display, etc.

The sound actuator connects to the powertrain network, pin 5 orange/brown (CAN low), ping 21 orange/black (CAN high) at the CAN gateway J533. You can easily identify any CAN network as the two wires (orange brown and orange(colour) ), they will be a twisted pair.

You can find the powertrain CAN bus wires at the transmission control module under the right front seat. Pin 46 CAN High, pin 34 CAN low. When splicing your connections, you MUST take care. do NOT use crimp connectors. Carefully remove some of the sheathing on the existing CAN wires, strip about 1/2" off the end of the sound actuator wires and wrap them tightly around the respective wires. Solder and heat shrink. You do not want any noise on the CAN network, it will effect how it works.

Gold! How good is this information. You are the top expert, thanks chewblekka!
Yeah I saw the installation documents and it showed how to splice and connect to Can wires, now i know why.
This will save me from routing the wires all the way into dash and the work associated to pry open plastics and put them back- would like to keep it all original.
The tcm under the seat, how best to identify it from other black boxes?

It's pretty obvious which module it is. Says "Aisin" and "Getrieb" on the sticker, and the PN starts "0C8".
