2015 Google Maps Street View

I just found out that the 2015 Touaregs are updated. Personally I prefer the look of the current front end (V vs. A) and headlights, but one thing I am envious of is the Google integration.
Google Maps points of interest, Google Earth, and Street View will be on the new NAV.
My question is - Will they still be using the RNS-850?
And will I somehow be able to update my 2014 RNS-850 with Google? If so I may need to pick up a VAG-Com soon :)

From what I am reading in Germany the new model Touareg has the same RNS850 system with new software. There is no reason why the current model RNS850 can't be updated with the same software.
Point to note Audi's MMI 3 which uses the same operating system and maps is possible to load into the RNS850 now. We have a local specialist who is offering an RNS850 update with Audi 2014 maps that include google earth and street view.

any chance they could mail me that update for me to install on mine? or if someone could point me in the direction on how to get that in the states.

AWESOME! This is great news for me.... Now I need to figure out how to update the system on my own as I know the VW dealership

A) Has no idea what I'm talking about
B) Literally can not update my NAV
C) Would make up reasons why it is not compatible
D) They would charge me $$$$$$$$

I don't think its out yet...most of us are running a rogue version of software in our RNS 850 so I'm betting large that as soon as anything is available we will all be experimenting again.

info from flipper dog on the other thread:

Yes the 2015 will be equipped with Google earth, street view, online POI search, online traffic, connect services and navigation goal picture (well the German models are now).

To get your pre 2015 RNS 850 to work the same you will need the following parts:
- UMTS router
- UMTS stick
- 2A car power adapter
- Power cable
- Nano WLAN stick (802.1n capable)
- 4GB micro-SD (Router operating system pre-installed)
- Micro-SD to SD adapter (to use the micro-SD card)
- 4GB SD card
- 1m network cable (Cat 5e)

Not much change from 1000 euro.

Or you could just replace it with a KGL unit for less outlay and get a better outcome ?

Hey, This is my first post on what appears to be a great forum. I have just received a brand new 2014 toureg v6tdi rline. It's fitted with an rns850 and has a DVD player with 2 sd card slots and sim. The system is running MOST Pull update version: hn+_eu_vw_p0784. My software 0822

I seem to have 3d models on my Nav (like Google Earth) but no google search or Google traffic/maps feature.

Questions

1) how can I update to get the full Google services?
2) where do you guys go for info on the latest firmware/software?

Thanks,

I don't think anyone has successfully added the Google services to <2015 models yet. In this thread there is a list of required parts for the upgrade (mainly data connection).

Not really much more to say, just wait until someone brings some insight. I'm guessing it won't be until a little while after you see some 2015's driving around the US.

Hello,
I found the following thread in the German Touareg forum

WLAN Modul im RNS 850
Did use Google translate on it. It talks off activating the WLAN thru green menu.

It also talks about an update in the Russian Touareg site about a new firmware for RNS 850 called "RNS850 p6077" .

I googled that and there is a link for the firmware in the Russian site below :
Êàðòû 8R0060884BK 6.17.3 (2014) íà RNS850 - Ôîðóì Touareg Club

After this firmware update the following shows up under Settings / Bluetooth & WiFi)

Cheers

Some more info. Here is the tear up of the RNS-850 unit. According to the write up

One interesting note is that although the unit features a Marvell WLAN IC, officially RNS 850 does not support WiFi functions.
The Marvell 88W8688 actually supports WLAN AND Bluetooth 3.0 but there is a CSR Bluecore6 IC that appears to be the one that handles the function
So looks like if the WLAN is enabled we could connect the unit to cellphone to insure internet connectivity for Google Map features

Here is the link to the RN-850 tear up.

newer Google intetegration...

I sure hope we hear a little more on what is possible here. It would be awesome if VW would make it possible to utilize your mobile's connection for data sharing, via the Bluetooth connection you already typically have anyway. Otherwise, most of us do have the CD/SSD card slot or MMI connectors in glovebox that they could utilize.

All this would be too helpful/easy though - they will want to promote people "upgrading" their Toaureg in full that want new tech.

The RNS 850 has WLAN chip built in, which apparently can be enabled from the green menu, you should be able to connect it your cellphone with hot spot mode enabled. This should suffice for live traffic and any other updates.

With WLAN enabled on RNS 850 you could connect to home network in the garage to pull in any massive updates needed for Google functionality.

Not sure if the 2015 Touareg RNS 850 has a different hardware setup !

It is going to be a wait and see.

Yes, Volkswagen will obviously want to use the 2015 updates to promote the purchasing of a new Touareg and therefore will not make it accessible to upgrade older models. But this is Clubtouareg.com - If the 2015's use the "exact" same RNS-850's I guarantee forum members will find a way to upgrade, bypassing Volkswagen of America. If the hardware is the same, the software can be modified.

Now that the 2015s are starting to show up in North American showrooms can anybody confirm exactly the details of the Google Earth, Street View etc....upgrade to RNS850 if any? I've not seen or heard many details. It would have been nice to have Apple Carplay or Android Auto but I don't think that's in the works. My T4 is in transit so I guess I'll find out first hand soon enough.

I have a MY2015 QS5 which is supposed to have this ability and doesn't. The VAG group have very poor in car technology, which I am not sure if this is done on the basis of wanting the driver to drive or just buying VAG is about German engineering not electronic gadgets.

Have a 14.5my with sim slot, useless, as it kills the Bluetooth connection to you phone. I was hoping that my data sim
would supply functionality for other applications eg: hot spot. But the system believes it's a phone sim and won't connect
to my Bluetooth on iPhone 6.
Interestingly Audi with the same system have a software update that fixes this, but asking VW I got that strange distant look.
I'm getting use that look!

I recently bought a new Touareg with face lift. There is RNS850 with Google maps and Google POI search option in NAV. There is a unit in glove box to insert N.2 SD memory cards and SIM slot. These are good, however I found a big bug. If you insert SIM card, NAV uses this one only even to make a call. Ignore bluetooth connection with iPhone. In this case no possible to use Hands Free call via your mobile. You have call via fixed SIM card. If you remove SIM card, iPhone can connect via bluetooth but in this data connection lost. Because NAV suppose to get data via bluetooth which is not possible for iPhone and many recent phones.

I don't how can I fix this problem. I know that some user was able select to be connected both. But I could not find it.

Now that's weird, i hope this isnt the case.
Nav should use the data from the sim and bt phone should be via the mobile.
Will spend some time on this later today if i can find some time

Ok inserted a sim into the slot and played around and you are right! If the sim is inserted the system it disconnects any bt connection and gets tied to using data and telephone from the inserted SIM!!! Now this sucks!!!
I didn't get much more time to play around and see what really is the point of a sim in there?
I couldn't see what the data connection adds for maps etc
I could however see that it downloaded some data not sure what exactly.
Now how do we fix this issue and get the system to use data only from the inserted sim and keep the telephone bt connection??

I found this: Bluetooth Phone and Dashboard Data SIM Card I did exact the same of instruction, still not fixed. In fact, Audi MMI 3G and RNS850 are same. I arrived green menu, enabled the option. But I could not arrive to select phone to make a call. Try, if you succeed, let us know.
So i need a firmware upgrade from the dealer first?
