If the electric handbrake has been actuated before rear brakes has been changed then, indeed the module has to be updated. From 2010 onwards, you can change the rear discs and pads with out introducing any issues, just don’t put the handbrake on! Previously, the VAGCOM would have to be used to release the actuators so service can be done.
If the electric handbrake has been actuated, then the shop would have had a real problem trying to get the brakes released. Only way is to remove the actuators which senses its position and current draw, etc... When it is re-installed, the actuators would expect to “X” and it is sees “Y”, it will show an error.
You don’t say if the rear brakes were serviced.
Agree with Noobytoogy, sounds like the shop doesn’t understand this type of electric handbrakes, which these days, all new cars have them.
The shop has to pay!!!???
