Rear Window Privacy Screen

Has anyone ever had to fix the screen on one of their rear window Privacy screens. One of mine has pulled out of the handle and I can't figure out the fix. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks

I had one that tore off bit by bit on my Phaeton, and it looked similar to yours, but on close view, it was "torn" or "broken off" rather than just "separated".

I guess it could have been stitched or melted back in, in an attempt at repair. As the car was still under warranty, simply VW replaced it.

I was able to glue it back onto the metal rod. Still working to this day 2yrs and counting. Try to fix since that part is over 300.00 new

I just found this thread beacuse my second one is doing that. The first one was repaired under warranty. I guess I can see if my extended warranty will cover it but it's a $100 deductable. I might try to fix it myself next weekend. I didn't realize it's a $300 part.

i got it

i know it's a late reply, but i found a fix for this problem. and it has worked for me the last 2 months.

this is what i did.
1) wedge a piece of cardboard between the window and screen to keep it slack
2) add a bead of gorilla super glue in the channel and push the screen in there (i used a credit card)
3) use a piece of cord/string/twine (or spline from an old screen door) and push that in the channel (i used a cc for that too) so is actually holds the screen in place
4) i added another bead of glue (on top of the twine) after the cord was in place to hold everything. let it dry for 30 minutes and you should have a nice taut screen again

That looks like a good solution. I'll give it a try Sunday. Thanks for the suggestion!

The small handle in the middle is actually a clip that prevents the two rods from sliding side to side. If you can squeeze the ends and get the clip out without breaking it (as I did) the rods will slide right out. I use a needle and thread and some gorilla super glue slide it back in and reinsert the clip.

I was driving 100mph at the freeway and accidentally opened the rear windows the wind just ripped out the privacy screen.. I filled the plastic with silicone, and now is tight.. I can now open the windows at any speed..
