New Treg Owner Got some Qs for ya all!

Greetings all,

Just recently took delivery of a white 2014 Lux Treg3, local one owner, 63k on the odo. I want to do a few mods to start out. By way of background, we sold our B7 2012 Passet SEL TDI back to the big VW emblem in the sky and then went out and bought the Treg from a private party. Moved from 238 ft pds of torque to 406, as you know!

1.) Just as I did with the Passat, I want to change out the interior lighting to LED. I don't need bulb sources so much, as I think I have that figured out. But I cannot seem to find tutorials on how to remove the various facia plates inside the cabin to get to the bulbs. I feel as if I am going to break something. i.e. rear passenger map lights, and front, center lighting console. Any advice here appreciated.

2.) Is it true that this year of vehicle has no 'DRL' idiot light on the dash when they are on? Our '12 Passat did. Either my DRL dash light is burned out, or there isn't one. This seems confusing to me.

3.) Fog light mod. On my 2015 Subaru Outback I am running Osram's Night Breaker Unlimited (55 watt bulb that burns at 2100 lumens verses stock Osram 55 watt bulb at 1600.) I guess they inject both a halogen and zenon gas to make that work. I love them, and yes, you replace them like clockwork about once per year. I've tried LED and HID kits for the subbie, but total, epic fail each time. What are the recommended bulb mods to increase lumens in the Treg fogs? I intent to cover them with Lamin-X yellow film as I have with the Subbie.

4.) Also, is it true, that tinting pano roofs makes them heat up, then explode? I have read that in general, that's a no-no thing to do. Thoughts?

That's about it for now... thanks in advance for you collective knowledge!

No DRL idiot light on the 2011+ Touaregs.

For front fogs, stick with proper halogens as the lights are reflector type and aftermarket HID or LEDs will not throw proper light, thus blinding oncoming drivers. And for G sake don't use your fogs unless it's foggy. Duh!

I would not tint a sunroof personally for the reasons you stated. But that does not mean your roof WILL explode, just that it could. Your gamble. I find the sunshade does a pretty good job of keeping the interior darker and cooler.

I have super bright LED fog lights that are switch backs, meaning I can change the color by turning them on and off. I have Cool white, Yellow, Halogen, flash and strobe. They’re super super bright and work amazing. I do get an error on my dash though :/.

Don’t tint the sunroof as it will cause it to explode.

To change the interior lights, get the interior trim removal tools, or cover a small flat head with the painters tape so it doesn’t scratch. They’re super easy to remove but go slow.

OP has a T3, which uses the fog lights for cornering lights. Switchback LEDs would cause all kinds of headaches whenever they turn on for cornering. I can see them both going out of sync and being different colours and looking like a$$.

Thanks for all the input. As a long time skier, my fogs are used during heavy fog, rain or snow storms.

Yeah.. ‘light vomit’, I know what it is w poorly designed replacement bulbs. Spraying light everywhere.

I did figure out how to use the trim tools to remove the main dome light panel and replaced w some LED’s.

Guess I’ll not do any film on the pano, although a shop sezs its ok?

Thxs for the input.
