Front cigarette socket

Hi all,

I've had a couple of USB charge plugs plugged into the front cigarette lighter socket (this is the one that pops up under the sliding door and NOT the one labelled 12V) however none of these seem to charge my phone. I've tried a different phone as well but there's nothing.
Before i go plodding a multimeter into it can someone confirm that this socket SHOULD provide 12V ?

Does the same charger cable charge your phone in a different car? Did you check the appropriate fuses? (Fuse map should be in owner's manual.)

Also these sockets have notoriously bad contacts. Maybe try turning the charger insert around or lightly push in different directions to see if it starts charging.

What model year and engine are we talking about?

all cigarette lighters(I mean power outlets) should provide 12v. some need the key on or a switch flipped.

Simplest test. Engine running should have +12V to all sockets.

If you have a socket without power with engine on, then check fuses.
