A pillar trim removal and reinstallation on 2013 Touareg

I want to replace the driver's side A pillar trim on my new-to-me 2013 Touareg V6 Lux. The existing trim part seems slightly bowed/warped in one spot. I purchased a replacement and need some guidance on removal of the old one and installation of the new one.

Most of the information I have found online for other VW models references a style that has a screw behind the "airbag" label, however the T3 appears to have a different design with two metal clips and a plastic fastener.

Does anyone know how to replace this piece?

The technician who worked on my 2015 Touareg pillar trim said that VW uses a single - use connector pin. He needed to order it in before he could reattach the trim piece. I'm not sure what he meant exactly, but if you're trying to refit the piece yourself, this might factor in.

Some mornings, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps.
