2010 Toureg TDI AdBlue?

Hello,

just wondering if anyone can tell me when and how I would know to fill the AdBlue in my 2010 Toureg TDI?

I just picked up this vehicle and want to make sure I stay on this.

thanks in advance

With no idea of where in the world you are, a 2010 Touareg may or may not have Adblue - if it has it, the filler is under the spare wheel.

I am located in Ontario Canada.

sorry for my lack of knowledge with this vehicle.

I guess I need to confirm if it even has a system that requires Adblue.

I will check the spare wheel area

thx

confirmed, Adblue fill area found in the spare tire area

so here are my next questions

1) how often do I fill it?
2) is there anything that comes on the dash to remind me to fill?
3) what happens if it goes empty?

any info is greatly appreciated

thx

Adblu has a shelf life so really you should only use fresh when you need it.

You will get a refill warning about, if I recall aright, 1,000 miles in advance.

Should you ignore the warnings on the countdown to zero the car will not start the first time you try after passing zero. It won't stop if you are driving but the moment you turn off, that's it - no go!

So you have plenty of time to organise a refill if you take notice.

How much you use seems to vary.

The downside with a used car is that you don't know how much is in the tank at the moment.

Others may not agree but I think I'd take a chance and refill the tank now with fresh adblu with a long sell by date and then the car should be good for the best part of 8-10,000 miles.

1) Depends on annual mileage - as Noobytoogy posted, Adblue has a shelf life and part-containers shouldn't be used - the tank is 19.5 litres and my Adblue consumption has varied between 400-600 miles/litre - here in the UK, I can buy Adblue in 1.89/5.00/10.00 litre containers or use truck Adblue from a pump at a filling station - VW dealers also refill it at reasonable rates.

2) as posted, a warning at 1000/1500 miles is displayed.

3) depends on local emissions regulations - in Europe the engine can continue running once the tank is empty but cannot be restarted once it stops. Canada may well be different.

I'm glad we don't need Adblue in Australia. I've still got somewhere to put my second battery.

When it stops raining I'll take some photos of what I've done. PM me if I forget!
