VagCom "No Response from Controller"

This is happening with a cheap ebay cable that another member on here got and it worked fine with their touareg.
Just wonder if anyone has experienced this problem? Hook it up to the touareg and when i click to open something it says No response from controller
Im thinking its somthing i have set wrong on my HP laptop running Vista
Things tried allready.
-Version 3.11 and 409.1
-Windows Vista self installed drivers and the driver that came with the cable
-Oem Stereo and aftermarket stereo
-Tried all Com ports 1-4
-Car started, Key just on, Key Out
-Vista runnning in XP mode and as administor and just normal
-Changed Bits per second 9600, 7200, 4200
-All 4 usb port on laptop

Test Says This
Port status:OK
Interface:Found!
Type:Serial Pass-Through
Opto/Iso:No
RossTech Design:No

Bad cable?
Id like to get one of these cheap cables working because im not going to buy the official one to change 3-4 things.

It sounds like you're actually configured OK for the cable, but there is some slowness keeping the software from communicating with a controler in the Touareg. This "No Response from Controller" error is coming up within the Vag-Com software, right?

If your test says this, it is likely finding the cable OK. The issue I had with mine in the beginning is realizing that it is basically a serial cable that has a Serial to USB adapter built-in, not a direct USB cable. So, you need to make sure that the driver for that Serial to USB adapter is installed. Go into Device Manager (right-click 'Computer' and select properties. Device Manager is on the list on the left) and check for a listing of "Ports" where a new COM port will be when the cable is attached. Note this COM port number (COM 1-4) and make sure that the Vag-Com software is using that COM port.

Additionally, I don't know that version 3.11 or 4.09 were meant to run in Vista (eeehhhh, I'm shuddering thinking of that OS...), so you may want to right-click on the application, go to properties, and force it to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP. This may improve the chances of things working smoothly. However, if it is a hardware timing issue caused by an incompatibility with Vista, you may not be able to use that cable/software combination on that machine.

Good luck,
Matt

your cable might works alright, what i know is those cables can only allow you to check the status or find error code. you might need to subscribe in which case pay for the software to Rosstech to enable you to fully diagnose and change the codes.
hope this might help
best regards

I was just wondering how does someone get one of these cables? I'm new to this but that annoying chime and bell sounds are getting to me. Is this easy to change?

Once you get the right config, the bells and so on are a cinch to change. I have a Macbook Pro running Parallel with Linux, OSX and Darkside 2000 Pro. Ross Tech said they won't support this so I went out and got a used darkside laptop running XP and paid the 350 bucks for the cable (and software). However that laptop stays in the garage and out of sight. I do have principles after all.... 8-}

Thus the bottom line is, you want to work on the T or spend time debugging your laptop.

I borrowed a friend's setup, cable and laptop, and Im getting this error on EVERY controller. what actually is the problem?
I know it works on his Jetta because he used it to change some things.

I believe i should bite the bullet and buy the ross-tech package.

mine is a 2004 V10, is it true that I will gain nothing by having the $350 CAN interface over the $250 KII interface?

thanks for sharing.

Unless if you are 100% cetrain that you will NEVER drive another VW/Audi, you need to think long term. Get the CAN interface. The KII interface won't work on anything from the VAG group that was basically build after '05. The CAN interface is backwards compatible up to at least '99. And if you only plan on using it once on the V10, then even $250 would be a waist.

The '04 Tregs do have SOME CANBUS functionality, so I'm not really sure if you'd be able to access eveything on an '04 with a KII interface. I have a CAN interface and it works perfectly on my '00 Jetta and my '04 Treg.

Relocated to Aus. Starting fresh.
