Haha I appreciate your willingness to "suffer" for me aircooled. Sadly I think I'll have to pass up your offer!

Have to catch you next year too . . .

Well, since we're not going to get VW to change their marketing plans and get us those V6 TDIs sooner . . . Terri and I will have to shoot for next year too.

I thought about bringing the XC90 out this year but since we're going to sell or trade it on the TDI deal [eventually], I'd probably just damage it somehow. I would like to know just how capable [or not] it is under true off-roading conditions. Though it is basically an all wheel drive mini-van with ground clearance, I have been amazed at how well it does in adverse weather conditions just running Eagle ResponseEdge tires and we have done some limited off-roading while out at the CO cabin. You'd also be amazed at how well that little turbo 5 cylinder does at altitude. Our gas mileage even goes up when we're out there going up and down mountains!

patience is a virtue? Not! Probably order the TDI in September and get it next March.

No offense, but your XC90 wouldn't make it, period.

though I wouldn't begin to suggest our XC90 is remotely as off road capable as a Touareg [one of the reasons I want one], when I hear blanket statements like this, I generally find they are made by people that have never even been behind the wheel of an XC90. This Volvo all wheel drive system has done nothing but impress the hell out of me especially given no low range and just all season rubber. I've already done things with this vehicle that I didn't think it could do out at the cabin. It seems that as long as you even have 1 wheel that can get traction, you will keep moving.

Sadly, it's not worth risking vehicle damage over in a year I expect to sell it to get a TDI just to prove to doubters that, though these XC90s are no Touareg or Jeep, they are absolutely more off-road capable than they are given credit for.

will anyone be to Moab early enough on Saturday to do anything? I hadn't realized you guys are not even starting until Sunday - I'm due in Seattle by Monday night which is a bit of a drive even if I leave at lunch time Sunday.

Hi Jim,

Just caught this message and of course we talked yesterday. We did miss you out there.

Yes, we worked off a Sunday start since many like to have Saturday as a drive day. While we did have our arrival gathering Saturday night, we dont generally put it on the calendar just so folks can come into town on their own timetable. This is like Colorado where we trail M-T-Th-Fr with Sunday night arrival gathering.

I heard you got some bike trails in. Cool scenery. Send pics!

More snow for Ouray:

Statement as of 10:01 AM MDT on May 22, 2008

... Snow Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Friday...

A Snow Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM MDT Friday.

A cold unstable airmass will continue to pour over the San Juan
Mountains through Friday. Snow accumulation levels will lower to
around 8500 feet. By Friday afternoon snow accumulations of 4 to
8 inches with local areas up to 10 inches. In addition...
southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts will cause
areas of blowing and drifting snow over high exposed terrain.

A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily
travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and
limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

So it will just be a Touareg Rally Pub crawl this year? Or does someone have a sled they can bring along so we can do some back country skiing.
