All Vehicles, Expired Flash Disks
June 6, 2008 – UPDATE
If, while trying to perform a Flash update, you get a display showing that the Flash disk is out of date or has expired:
- Insert that Flash disk into a computer (with CD burning capability).
- Open the disk. There are usually 2 stored files: “Data” and “Label”.
- Open the file named “Label” using the “Notepad” program.
- Change the 4-digit year in the “Label” file to a date in the future, e.g. 2025.
- Save these changes and close the “Label” file.
- Copy both the modified “Label” file and the unmodified “Data” file onto a new one time use CD.
Do not use CDRW (erasable) discs.

All Models - Warranty Part Return Suggestion
Please do not disassemble components that are subject to warranty return. Warranty parts returned to Volkswagen
of America are sent for analysis to various suppliers and laboratories. It is imperative that these parts be returned to VWoA without consequential damage from removal, disassembly, or shipping. Please return the parts in the same manner, using the shipping material and packaging that the replacement parts arrived in. Also, please include
diagnostic information such as GFF logs and a copy of the repair order with the returned part

2000> All Models - Using the 5054A Wireless Transmitter for flash updates
When using a VAS 5051B or VAS 5052A tester in conjunction with a VAS 5054A wireless transmitter head for a flash procedure, please connect a USB cable between the transmitter head and the tester. This, in conjunction with a battery charger, will eliminate most errors during the flash procedure.

2004-2007 Touareg - Gearbox DTCs
December 19, 2008 – UPDATE: Model Years 2006 and 2007 included
DTC P0753 (0025 Solenoid Valve N88 Open / Short in Address Word 02 “Gearbox Electronics” can occur on MY 2004 and certain early MY 2005 Touareg vehicles. The root cause of the complaint is that the harness is too short, causing wire strands to break internally within the harness near the T14e connector. Do NOT replace the TCM or the Valve Body for this DTC; instead, perform the following steps:

  • Disconnect the T14e connector from the transmission
  • Back out pin 1 (yellow) from the T14e connector about 12 inches above the transmission connector
  • Butt-splice a new wire from the VAS 1978 Wiring Repair Kit, ensuring an additional 1/2 inch of extra overall harness length.
  • Re-pin the wire to the T14e connector and re-attach the harness connector to the transmission

2004> Touareg - Improper AM Radio Station Frequencies
If the AM radio stations do not tune in on exact frequencies in equal 10 kHz intervals (770 stops at 774, 830 stops at 82, it may be due to miscoding of the instrument cluster causing the unit to be set to the European AM channel scheme. To repair, re-code the instrument cluster through GFF.
