You must be a bit younger than me! I have a hard time turning my head all the way to see clearly out the back window. For me the camera is nice, having said that I have had it for only 24 hours-give me some time before I determine the full utility of it.
I use the mirrors, side view mostly...barely turn my head at all. I never turn around to look out the back window, got a rear view mirror for that.

I installed the carnavi camera a few weeks back in my 2012 TDI - works awesome. My main reason for getting it was for hooking up my camper in the summer however it works well for pulling out of parking stalls and works awesome as I back into my garage everyday!! I have a line on my floor that I backup until the red line on the backup camera reaches it which means my vehicle is just far enough into the garage for my garage door t close leaving me as much room as possible behind my vehicle (backed in). I figured the $400 was well worth it for the functionality and would pay for itself immensely to avoid putting my trailer hitch through my bumper haha - not that I have ever done that but who knows!

Installed the Kufatec kit on my 2012 Tourareg. All coding done and RNS850 reset. The only fault VAGCOM software shows is 'backup camera system not calibrated' in the 6C controller. With the transmission in reverse, there is no video feed. The park sensor screen comes up like it always did but that's it. Any suggestions?

Just installed the Carnavi kit in my 2012 TDI. Good quality kit and works well but yes a little sketchy on instructions, but thanks to the this thread I got it done in about 4 hours most spent figuring out what/where stuff.

One tip: Run the camera wire through the left hand flexible conduit between the hatch and cabin. The existing wire bundle on that side is smaller so there is more room to get a fish through all the corners (I used a piece of coax as a fish).

One Question. Where/How did you mount the can/decoder box that comes in the kit behind the glove box? I zip-tied it to the back of the glove box but it's gotta be jammed in there pretty firmly to get the glove box back in place.

Hi Perry - first off - I see you live in Regina (as do I) - and I too have a 2012 TDI (dark flint grey) - and I also installed the carnavi kit recently. If you ever see this bombing around the city with a german license plate on the front that would be me!!

I installed the carnavi kit last month and it works great. I put the CAN box behind the center dash sitting on top of a steel support brace. I am anal about rattles so it is on a sheet of foam and then zip-tied to hold it firmly in place - I have some pictures but not on my work computer unfortunately. I was worried about the space behind the glovebox so that's why I decided to put it where I did.

Where abouts do you work/live Perry? I'm live in lakeridge, work for Brandt Engineered Products.

I have the R-line '14 Touareg TDI my truck came with the back-up camera and wanted to get the parking sensors. So I was wondering if anyone has ever added the areal view + parking sensors to a version w/ only back-up camera and got it to work same as the newer Exec versions?

I see there's an option on kufatec, here's the link:

Park Pilot w/OPS - Front + Rear Retrofit - VW Touareg 7P-37998-2

Any advice/opinion is appreciated.

The last time I checked with a dealer in Sydney, I was told it is impossible to add area view to a car that had rear view camera.
This one seems like it can be done. Thanks for the link.

I decided to install the Carnaviplayer backup camera based on all the great information and advice on this thread. Just received it from China in only 5 days. When I opened the box and checked all the cables I ran into an issue. The CAN BUS cable has a different connector than what is in the Carnaviplayer website and does not connect into the anything but the round camera connector. Did they ship the wrong cable or did they change the design? Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Mbienk, just checked all the stock here. Only one product has the same harness(round connector cable) as we shipped to you. Others have the same harness as shown on our website.
I believe this is a mistake. Will check with engineer and ship you right harness next Monday. Sincerely sorry for that.
Will you please email us your order number.

I ordered from carnaviplayer and got it in about five days. Installed today in about four hours. It just takes a while to pull off the trim on the liftgate. I am very happy with the quality of the camera. We also have a Q7 and I think this lense is better quality. It also acts like stock with both parking and camera simultaneously.

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of installing the Carnavyplayer camera and got stuck at the point where I should connect the CAN to the car.
I read the whole thread (and not only) but nowhere I could find clear directions or a picture that shows the location of the CAN connector on a 2012 Touareg TDI (7P). Some say it's above the fuse box, some behind the steering wheel.

Can anybody please post a picture and pinpoint on it or describe in more detailes where is this CAN connector located on the car? What is the OEM name of that module? How many connectors are on it and what colors? Which one of them is the proper connector?

Many thanks!

Carnavyplayer instructions actually states that CAN cable is to be connected to the PDC box. Some research led me to believe it's the 8 channel Park Distance Control unit (Parkhilfe) that has two 12 pin connectors (one for front park sensors and one for rear) and one 16 pin connector, that contains the CAN+/- wires. I think this is the one I needed, I only have to find it on the car. I'll post pictures if I do.

I finally did it! The PDC box is right on top of the driver side fuse box, towards the windshield. It has three connectors, as mentioned above. The one we need is the lowest one, with 16 pins.
The worst struggle though was to find the best place for the carnavyplayer box, as car's LVDS wire that plugs into the DVD/infotainment unit in the glove box is very short (15 cm). Finally, I anchored it with 2 long tire-ups behind the glove box and nicely put everything back in place.
It works as advertised, I'm very pleased. Just wonder if I can now add another 3 cameras or at least the one in front.

Finally had a chance to install the oem backup camera to replace the NAVTV aftermarket that was installed a couple of years ago. The used oem came from a member of the forum. The install is time consuming partially do to the added challenge of undoing some changes made by the installer of the aftermarket device. After several hours and a few choice words during the reinstall of the interior panels all is back together. I tend to work slow and methodical testing things several times during the install so I likely made this a longer job than normal. The oem setup is much better than the aftermarket. The integration with the steering and OPS is very nice. All said and done I spent about the same as I would have with the dealer installing the oem device in the beginning. Thanks to the great write ups in this thread, they were very helpful. One outstanding issue, the scan is show a calibration error for the camera controller 6C. Haven't figured this one out yet but doesn't appear to be affecting the operation.
