Well this sucks ! Broken park brake handle.

Cant believe it ... went to move off today .... SNAPPO !

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...psbe8wxmdv.jpg

I could be wrong, but I think I heard some cable madness happen under the dash immediately when it broke ? I havent investigated yet !

Has this happened to anyone ... and whats the fix ? I dont think I'll do it myself, looks like a job for the shop. Spewing that the vehicle was in for a 130k service last week so could have got it done then.

I must admit ... i hate Hate HATE foot parking brake set ups. Give me a hand brake any day.

Thanks in advance guys !

Steve

Thanks Mate ..... you had me at "beer".

I will withdraw my lazy "off to the shop" statement and have a crack.

Thanks again

Actually ... quick question if someone knows.

What will happen if I (accidentally) jump on the foot parking brake whilst the handle is broken ?

Thanks

You will have to figure out a way to pull the cable manually without the handle. I imagine it would involve pliers and possibly large amounts of cussing because of the delay to your trip that it causes.

My handle only started to break, so I was able to replace it in the comfort of my driveway with my toolbox nearby. Had I been somewhere else, it would not have been as pleasurable.

I sprayed some white grease on my handle when I replaced it, but I'm not sure that really helps any, as the majority of the force comes from the cable tension, not from friction of the handle itself.

A very well known issue caused by people who tend to pull the handle up as they release it instead of just pulling it horizontally straight out.

Please don't tell me you don't already know about the parking brake piston failing too?

The handle was broken in my R5 when I bought it. The previous owner used a teaspoon to release it then Dragline drilled a hole in it and put a cable tie loop in it so I was still able to use it while waiting for one from the dealer.
