Question re the different 4Wd settings

The VR6 I'm getting has 3 4Wd settings, 4Hi, 4Lo, & center diff lock. in center diff lock, can that be used at any speed, or does it only lock front to rear in low?

In high it's automatic everything,Center diff hooks front and rears together.but only in low range,I believe it will lock in low by itself,if you put it in centerlock you won't get any varied torque transfer front to rear,it will be 50/50.

That's what I don't understand. Normally on trucks and 4x4 SUV's, 4Lo is part time which locks front and rear together, so why have a seperate locking center diff, unless its part time 4Hi?

I guess you could call it that,I'am new to Tregs, but had alot of 4x4's.In auto or high, the Computor will shift the torque front to rear, and apply the brakes to get side to side,if you put in centerlock for off-road,thats were it stays 50/50,and if you have a seperate rear locker you could manually set that to lock the rears together.Somebody will chime in I'am sure,to clarify.

That is true, but does center lock work in high, since 4Lo would be a center lock with different gearing ratio?

all modes are full time, there is no part time anything.

locker only works in low range...there is no need or practical use for a locked center diff in high range.

Thanks Nick, now I'am waiting for winter to see if it's as good as my Quadra-drive Jeep was in the snow.It wouldn't spin a tire unless you goosed the throttle.

This being the case, would differential in full time change distribution front to rear or even lock center when needed in slippery and snowy conditions, like a torsen setup?
