My Towing with T3 and 7K lbs Toyhauler

OK so I have forest river 21ft toyhauler (24 ft overall).

On the scales its was 3000, front axle, 3100 rear axle, and 7200 lbs in the trailer, that was ready to roll weight with passengers and EVERYTHING. 2 bikes, generators, clothes water etc etc etc....Tongue weight about 700lbs guessing
HEAVY... for sure but within limits

Used a WDH hitch without issue and dual friction sway bars.
Drove from LAs Vegas to Laguna Seca for MotoGp this past weekend. 500 miles each way.

60mph was the average speed , 65 could be done on flats and 70 going downhill, 40mph on the steepest hills at 7-8* grade.
I have Dashdaq to monitor EGT , Cat temp and Engine temp.. Nothing for the transmission YET.

The trucks pulls AWESOME, on flats I almost forgot it was there till hitting a bump, which reminded you there was an RV behind us, or the fact the stock mirrors can't see past the front of the RV.

Aero Mirrors worked AWESOME and gave Great visibility without much vibration and didn't fall off.

Only had mild sway at over 55mph with 30mph crosswinds, slow down o 50 and it was fine.

OVERALL I AM SO PROUD OF THE TOUAREG.

AT the campsite in Laguna, So many people came up to me curious how the hell my Touareg could pull an RV damn near twice as big as the SUV... mention Diesel and they all go "OHHHHH"

Drumroll please...... 1000 mile average for the trip was 14mpg... Not bad considering were rolling 13k + lbs...
Managed 10-11 in the mountains and 15ish on the flats... winds were not really a factor as I had no tail or head wind, Just still Air.

So if there was any doubt to what it could do, I've settled it.. pics coming

Yea air suspension would be nice. but the hitch did just fine.

Justa4banger,

Who made the installation of your WDH ?

Looking at your pic's, the rear end of your Treg looks a bit to low and the front of your travel trailer to high (nose up).

Here is a link that will give you a lot of info about WDH adjustement.

RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Towing: Travel Trailer Hitch Set-up Procedure

It's very easy. There are 3 adjustments. You have the TT level, you set the height of the hitch ball, to level the tow vehicule, you set the right chain link of the bars and third, to have the bars parallel with the trailer tongue, you set the hitch head angle.

OK, I know, I'm a newbe here but not a newbe in towing TT and set up WDH.

And by personnal experience, more than 70% of rigs with WDH on the road are not well tuned, especially the one's that where set by RV dealers...

Do you mean the two motorcycles that are in the picture or a couple of bicycles? Does your camper has a special compartment to carry bikes/motorcycles? I'm very interested in knowing some details on how you carry those...
